Ok but expensive

I enjoyed my visit overall, but the gardens appear neglected, for example Himalayan Balsam about which should be removed promptly as it is a non native invasive species. The hall is typical of these grand houses.
The pricing is poor and your staff lack knowledge I was told that the bus discount is not advertised as people know about - well I didn't how would I and it is not clear on your website.
Also one of your volunteers tried to tell me that you care for nature but if you did they would be evidence of wild flowers meadows not just a small patch in the wall garden.

Hi there, thank you for your thorough review of Harewood. We are acutely aware of the Himalayan Balsam and are doing our best to safely remove this (although, it seems to grow faster than we can dig it up!). We do indeed offer 50% off to visitors who arrive by bus (and also bicycle) - we have this on the 'promotions and discounts' page on our website, but I will liase with our Marketing Manager to ensure this is more obvious. Many Thanks

We had a lovely day at Harewood house

We had a lovely day at Harewood house. We were very lucky with the weather and had a lovely walk around the gardens. We also booked a 'private apartments' tour which was brilliant. The guide was very knowledgeable and interesting. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming.

Go elsewhere, poor value

Not good. Visited many years ago and it was excellent. Impossible to fault.
Visited on 5th August. House open, grounds and terrace closed including walled garden.
Previous day it had been very windy but Tuesday a gentle breeze, no excuse to keep things closed.
2 stars as guide was knowledgeable would never go again, far better houses to visit

Hi there, thank you for your review. Apologies that you did not get to experience all of the Gardens and Grounds during your visit - due to the storms on 4th August, we had significant damage to some trees and areas of site, so for the protection of staff and visitors, we made the decision to extend the closure to 5th as visitor routes were blocked by debris.

Lovely house and grounds

Lovely house and grounds. Friendly staff. Slightly tenuous link to Jane Austen, but nice displays of Turner artwork. African slave trade connection means there is a section addressing the house and family history. Maintains a balance with reality.
Well maintained formal and informal gardens and lake. Capability Brown knew his stuff!
Plenty of cafe space and other facilities in the grounds.
Few people on here moaning about the ticket concessions. Concessions have always been a thing at ticketed venues. I've arrived with my bus ticket and got in half price. No brainer, just read the website before you go! It isn't cheap but they have huge upkeep costs and employ staff. There's always the option not to go, if you don't like that.

Harewood Homes

Harewood Homes, LLC has managed my rental property for the past 3 years, and I’ve been very pleased with their service. They’re professional, communicate well, and always ensure rent is collected on time. Highly recommend them to any property owner looking for reliable, stress-free management.

I would give it a negative

I would give it a negative, but I can't. Unfortunately Harewood get reviews removed from Tripadvisor. This place is overpriced - unless you qualify for a discount ticket - make sure you search their site, certain people and certain groups of people get so much reduced prices. Their staff are rude, condescending and very much of the "do what we say and think what we tell you to" cancel culture mob. The gardens are okay but nothing special, the house is a big pile and if you get a tour, then expect to hear all about the slave trade, although like all these places now, they don't give you the true actual history of slavery throughout the ages, it's all "how awful are we" culture. Not someplace I'd recommend to anybody, much better (and cheaper) sites nearby that you can spend the day at.

EDIT : I note Harewood defending themselves suggesting that they only get racist posts removed - .... thanks Harewood, think you'll find your suggestion is defamation. The posts that you had removed highlighted your £2 discount tickets and how they benefitted certain individuals at the expense of others, having read several of them before they were deleted, no-one used racist language or terms.

Hi there! Thanks for leaving a review, although I must say, the only reviews that have been removed from our Tripadvisor if they violate the guidelines such as racist language. Harewood was built using the profits created from the Transatlantic Slave Trade in the 18th Century, so it is vitally important that we tell this particular part of history, as Harewood would simply not exist without it - there are some fantastic Museums which do cover the whole history of the Slave Trade, which sadly still exists across the world and can be traced back much father than the 1700s - we do hope you get to visit them too.

This place discriminates against British…

This place discriminates against British people by allowing refugees access for 1 12th of the cost they would charge a British National.
It's a rip off and a disgrace.

Edit in light of their response.
So you give discounts to anyone that is taking more out of the system than they put in? When you already take tax payer funds. It's a disgrace.
Making working people pay more to subsidise people that don't or hardly work.
All those people on that list can pay their own way, full price like every mug working full time has to.
It's discrimination. It's two tier pricing and it's a disgrace no matter how you attempt to justify it!
I wouldn't visit you if you were paying me.

The most amazing house, let down by shoddy management

The most amazing house - what a fantastic heritage with Adam and Chippendale . Completely let down by an indifferent guide to the house with really not very much information on the artwork, hopeless guides stationed in the rooms looking things up on I pads (clueless) and they have ruined the parterre at the front , now filled with gravel and the planting mostly stripped out . What a terrible pity .

Hi there, thanks for your feedback about your visit to Harewood. I shall share your feedback with our Collections and Programming team. The Parterre has been restored back to it's 18th century design to be in keeping with the Grade I listed landscape, and changes considerably throughout the seasons - we suggest visiting between May-August to see it's vibrant colours and intricate planting.
