Reservation released despite flight details — left stranded and out of pocket
I booked a car with Alamo (Enterprise) at Marseille Airport over two months in advance, including my flight details in the reservation. On 19th September, my Ryanair flight was delayed by over 2 hours due to crew issues. When I arrived at the Alamo desk, I queued for nearly an hour, only to be told my reservation had been released because I was marked as a "no show" — despite being physically present and waiting in line.
Staff admitted they had a shortage of vehicles that day and many other customers were also being turned away. There was no flexibility, no assistance, and no alternative offered. My wife and I were left stranded with our accommodation over an hour away from the airport.
I had no choice but to rent a car from Avis for one day — at a significantly higher cost, almost equal to my original 5-day booking with Alamo — just to reach our destination. The next morning was wasted returning to Marseille to collect my original booking and return the Avis vehicle.
To make matters worse, Alamo had my flight details on file and still released the booking. I’ve since written to their customer service team, but weeks later I’ve received no response at all.
This was a deeply frustrating and disappointing experience. I’ve used Enterprise/Alamo in the past without issue, but this lack of support and communication has made me reconsider ever booking with them again.

After that, no one could be reached. This provider is untrustworthy; I can only advise against using them. G.Oppermann, Düsseldorf, Germany
Alamo car rental Toulouse airport
Contrat de location : 9M6W7R de TOULOUSE APT
Vehicle registration HD-635-WV
Vehicle had two fault;
1 dashboard displays warning triangle and message – injection a controler, vehicle loses power and comes to a stop. Restarting engine clears the fault but it soon returns.
2 12v outputs had no power, preventing use of air pump and of my gps
I was unable to make contact with assistance telephone line.
I reported the faults via Alamo chat line on Wednesday 10 September 2025; I was told the management at Toulouse would contact me. They did not.
I reported again via the chat line on Monday 15 September. Again, I received no contact.

Very poor - Paris CDG rental
Maybe the worst rental experience ever.
I booked a car at Paris CDG for my summer vacations - when I arrived I found some 30 people waiting and the clerks simply repeating that they had no cars as "they were waiting for rented cars to return" (it seems quite unbelievable that so many people with prepaid and cars had to wait and that all cars were late in returning) .
If it was not for another company who gave me on the fly a similar car my holidays were ruined
I'll never rent with Alamo again
Car broke down on day one, left stranded with no car
Alamo at Nice Airport did not prepare our car properly: it did not have enough AddBlue liquid in it. It broke down on the first day in Italy in the evening in our way back to Nice. We had never heard of such a thing as AdBlue liquid. This is the most basic thing to do: prepare a car so that it does not break down on day 1. The car was towed under their control but we were left stranded 100 km away from our place with no car. We had to pay 250 euros for a taxi to get back to our place. Nobody contacted us the next day to get another car although three people from Alamo/Enterprise call us to simply ask if the car was towed ! These people are totally disorganized as they appear to never record in their system what happened with their towed car. Still waiting to be paid back to 250 euros. AVOID !
Alamo enterprise n'est pas correct? A FUIR
Alamo enterprise n'est pas correct, manque d'information, mauvais service, essaye de vendre des assurances déjà payées !
bad experience !
first, at departure, swiss side, alamo entreprise wanted to sell another insurance of its own ! stating that the insurance I had already paid via enjoy travel did not cover every thing and that we would have to go trough another company for any accident, thus difficulties....
at arrival, the swiss side, coming from Mulhouse motorway, the car park CH rental was blocked at the exit "airport" , due to works on the motorway (these were known by alamo!).
We did about 3 round runs to find the CH rental car park, then 40 km more on the motorway to find that the entrance is much further than airport exit. No map is given, and the airplane time was really just to catch. We had to do a horrible run.
some money was left in the car, no news ?...
CONCLUSION : no more alamo enterprise, bad experience, bad service !
Enjoy your 3 hour wait
Booked a car rental at 1200pm from Paris CDG airport. No car in sight as of 1500pm. No doubt if I returned it 3 hours late, there would be a fine for me, as per their T&Cs. Avoid this clown show.
Charged €1700 for a Mechanical Failure I Didn’t Cause – No Support or Transparency
I rented an electric car from Alamo Marseille Saint-Charles on July 31st, 2025. Within minutes of leaving the agency for a holiday trip to Cannes, the car showed a “power limited” alert and entered turtle mode, despite being 80% charged. I was on the highway, with cars going 130 km/h around me, and my car couldn’t go above 70. At one point, I had to stop on the emergency lane because it wouldn’t even go uphill anymore.
I immediately called roadside assistance. A technician came after 30 minutes, but since I had turned off the car, the alerts were gone. He didn’t test anything, changed a few settings, and told me it was fine. Of course, the same issue happened again right after. What should have been a 2-hour trip turned into 5 hours of stress and danger on the highway. I have a video of the entire incident.
The next day, I returned the car to the Cannes Gare location — it had no damage, no scratches, and clearly had a technical defect. Still, Alamo charged me €1700 on top of the rental price. They refuse to provide any explanation, no technical report, and don’t reply to my emails or calls. The report they filed doesn't show any accident — because there wasn't one. They simply withdrew a massive amount of money with zero transparency.
This experience has been financially and emotionally devastating. I had no responsibility in the malfunction, and yet I was penalized as if I caused damage. This is a clear abuse of customer trust. I’m disputing the charge with my bank and escalating it to consumer protection authorities.
I strongly advise others to be extremely cautious when renting with Alamo. If something goes wrong, even if it's the car’s fault you may be the one who pays for it.
Literally out of the gate
Literally out of the gate, they rip you off! You’re all excited to get to a new country and it really puts a damper on things! we asked them if the car had navigation and they simply said no. I speak fluent Italian. They made us buy navigation knowing that the car had it. We drove two hours to our destination and drove all the way back 2 hrs, then back! so six hours in total after that debacle, they said that they would put the money back on the credit card and they did not.
Also, they have the “ worry free” as they call it. Insurance is a joke. Just the name is a joke. They’re just screwing over every chance they get. While giving you a dirty car. We are still waiting for our money. Their headquarters should know that that is somebody’s first experience going into a new country and you’re already being lied to left and right.
Worst customer experience ever- BEWARE
From start to (unresolved) finish, this has been the worst customer experience of my entire life. Alamo completely scammed me and my friend and are still continuing to send us random bills with no merit and they’ve even charged my card that used for the rental without any authorization.
My friend and I purchased a car rental in nice France for 4 days, and we were to return the car at the marseille airport before flying out. Well, 30 minutes into having the car we arrived in Antibes for what was supposed to be a beach day. Jokes on us, considering we retrieved some items that we needed out of our electric trunk, and we were then unable to get the trunk to latch/lock shut using any of the 3 trunk buttons on the vehicle/key fob. We therefore could not leave the car unattended since all of our valuables were unlocked to the public. We started making calls to Alamo at the airport, and were met with incredibly rude representatives who told us we would need a tow. When we asked if we could get another car delivered they said they could try to buy us a taxi back to the airport, without any real conviction to the statement. We spoke with about 4 different Alamo workers at different locations and none of them were communicating with the others to help resolve the issue. Eventually a tow truck came, saw the car didn’t need a tow and they proceeded to try to fix the trunk by playing with the latch and buttons. They couldn’t fix the issue either so they bungee tied the trunk shut. We were then told to drive the car to the Cannes location. This is the only time we were met with a helpful manager who was kind to us. But we were still told we were essentially going to be blamed for “breaking” the trunk when we literally did nothing but press the trunk buttons and experienced a complete malfunction of the electrical system. The manager told us our best bet was to drive the car to the dealership (Nissan) and ask the workers there if it was a mechanical issue.
We made it to the dealership before close and took video evidence of the mechanic telling us that it’s a mechanical issue that is covered under warranty and would be free to fix. No mention of user error, or us “breaking” the vehicle, and additionally he reiterated that it is a problem covered under warranty.
We took this info to the next location we were told to go to, which was a different branch where we were told they had the only other car available. Our current car could not get fixed that day, so we accepted the all electric Mercedes suv that was given to us at 55% charge. We were then told we were being sent an “accident report” and charged 500 extra euros for breaking the original car. We tried to reiterate what the mechanic had just said but the language barrier seemed to impede this and the worker we dealt with was very unpleasant and did not care.
We took our road trip through France having to plan every stop based on where to charge the vehicle, but alas the vehicle ended up being fine and we returned it at Marseilles with no issue. Additionally we were extremely put out by the first vehicle malfunctioning and ruining an entire day of our trip.
Upon getting home from the trip I had 2 charges on my card for over $800 each. Mind you the original cost was supposed to be around $350, so even with the supposed 500 euro “accident” fee this made no sense; I immediately called my travel card, told them the story, disputed the charges and they were dropped within a few days.
You’d think that was the end of the story, but no! This is the most relentless, grimy company I have ever dealt with. They just last week, after 2 months, charged another $816 to my account randomly, and then also mailed me a random 250 euro bill. I emailed the contact on the list and they claimed the charge was for the trunk issue, to which I replied with my story and the video of the dealership worker explaining the issue was a mechanical issue covered under warranty. I never got a response, and instead got ANOTHER bill in the mail claiming I have a balance of 250 euros.
I am still working to dispute this, and I’ll be damned if these scammers pull the same shit on me that they clearly try on every tourist. It is predatory and ridiculous, I just wish I had done more research on the rental company before ever giving them a cent. Please do not rent with this company!!! Furthermore, since they are affiliated with enterprise I will never be using either rental company ever again. I understand there are some cultural differences but that does not mean I am ignorant to the truly criminal practices that this company is engaging in. And upon reading the other comments just like mine, I know it’s a sleazy tactic they enlist often to make more money. Truly abhorrent!
Fabulous, helpful staff at Montpellier airport
The staff I dealt with at Montpellier Alamo Car Rental were excellent.
They stayed late because our flight was late, (Sixt car rental didn't!) they were helpful, friendly and went above and beyond.
I would happily recommend them.
NTE Alamo Damage Scam?
Alamo. NTE airport. Damage scam? Making photos and video at collection may not be enough protection. Close examination with a magnifying glass may not be enough. Look for the slightest of imperfections and be certain they are documented with the contract when you sign. Better yet, don't use this agency at NTE airport. Enterprise, Alamo, and National are all handled by this one agency.
I saw so many bad reviews about this Alamo location when I was using Google maps to plan the drive to the car return. I decided not to do a before-hours drop off, but to stay to process the return in person when I could be there at the inspection for damage .Upon his inspection, damage was "found". It was so slight an imperfection that was impossible to see even when he pointed at it. Three times. By moving around I thought maybe there is a very slight imperfection. No scratch, paint perfect, just the slightest indentation that seems part of the car. Really amazing that he could find it with such a quick look around the car. I thought "How suspicious." And I told him so and asked if this is a scam and if they collect for damage each time this vehicle is rented.
At both collection and return I made detailed photos and video of the entire car, as I always do. I could not see the imperfection on the collection-time photo & video due to reflections. I couldn't see it myself but showed the inspector the "before" photo, pointed to where it is, and he agreed it was not perfect when I collected the car. He made a photo of my phone screen with his phone including the date (EXIF). I can't see the "damage" at all on the return photos & video with less reflections. I'm 100% certain the car was not damaged during my rental as I was visiting friends. We used their car while this one sat parked at their homes where no other vehicle could have hit it.
He said no damage would be charged. I asked for a paper confirmation of return. Impossible! I didn't have a chance to read the return text on the pad he provided me to sign (French, in the parking lot bright sunlight, and rushed because due to this nonsense I was running late to check in). He promised it would arrive by email later in the day.
3 weeks later, no email has ever arrived. (The Contract came by email and was received.) No email, but for about a week my credit card had a $648 amount pending from Enterprise. That is much more than the rental charge which had already been paid on the date I collected the car. I have excess insurance to cover damage, but I don't know if it will pay for being scammed! Plus it is just wrong for Alamo to run a business this way. I've rented hundreds of cars in different countries and this is only the 2nd time a rental company has tried to charge me for damage I didn't make.
There are no instructions for returning the car, not in the car, not in the email with the contract. Out of hours (23:00-08:00) instructions are papers (paper!) taped to the side of the kiosk out in the parking lot which most people wouldn't see. I actually drove to the airport, parked, and walked to the kiosk the day before I had to return the car as I wouldn't have time for confusion the next morning.
So.. with the $648 still pending, I submitted several reviews of my situation. It was eventually resolved, the pending charge dropped off, but it did cause some anxiety and wasted time for me.
I never did receive the final return documents, so I do not know why exactly $648 amount was pending as of the date I returned the car.
The car was fine. No problems with it.
Alamo Montpellier
Alamo Montpellier
I had a very bad experience with Alamo at Montpellier Airport. With less than 24 hours before pickup I received an email from Alamo saying they didn’t have any cars and they were cancelling the hire contract. They have not however refunded the money I paid them 3 months in advance and they have ignored every communication in the last week. Please don’t book with them - truly dreadful company
Alamo/Enterprise France
Alamo/Enterprise France: Very bad experience being overcharged and refused a refund despite having lots of proof against their claims of not having returned car on time. In addition very poorly organized return process at Nîmes airport.
We rented a car for 24 hours, pick up in Paris Orly, drop off the next day at Nîmes airport. We returned within the 24 hour window, yet they are charging us for an extra day and refusing to refund us even though we have lots of proof of our timely return in Nîmes which entailed leaving the car at an unmanned lot and dropping off keys at a box inside the terminal. Since that airport is only served by a few Ryan Air flights a week it's pretty deserted, so there are no people there except for a security guard. The guard is the one who showed us where to drop off the car key, after we had parked it in an outside lot. We would have been unable to find the drop off box on our own since it was hidden behind a counter. Which begs the question: Why, when you know people are going to be returning cars to a deserted airport, do you not provide some type of signage for customers? It was a ridiculous situation and now I am expending all this energy trying to get a refund from this dishonest and disorganized company. If I fail at the refund my next steps are to report them to the French government fraud website as well as to the Ministry that deals with car renral issues. Thankfully France has those!
Alamo Bergerac
After using Alamo Bergerac multiple times with no issue, the last time I dropped the car off I was unable to do the exit handover. I was told there was a scratch on the passenger wing mirror (where there was already an existing 2 inch scratch) and a scratch on the bumper. I emailed Alamo asking for photos (none supplied) and called the office and left a message to call me (they didn't call back). I was charged €350 for these scratches. (The original customer who created the 2 inch scratch must have also been charged). I feel disappointed and let down by a company I thought was reputable. I paid but I will NEVER allow them to do an exit handover without me being present again.
Run away
Very, very bad experience with Alamo at Palermo Airport!!! Vehicle left in perfect condition early in the morning before the offices opened. Email received in the afternoon demanding more than 300 euros for damages without any proof or contradictory exit report... run away from this company!
Overcharged / Mis Sold
1. Mis sold insurance that I specifically told them i did not want.
2. Extra millage charges applied to my credit card after the rental which was fully included in the rental agreement which I prepaid on booking.
3. Ignore emails after agreeing that I was overcharged but haven't refunded.
Watch out for the deliberate mis selling of insurance in the car park. Won't ever use them again.
Bad experience CDG/Alamo
Pick up at Orly went OK, but drop off at CDG was difficult to find, and then no drop off box for the keys. Spent 30 minutes walking around Alamo /Enterprise/ National area, and all around closed/locked office and found nothing. Finally left keys on drivers front tire, as had v early plane leaving. Once in terminal 2F/C etc looked for Alamo desk but nothing found to be able inform them of where keys were. Flew home to SFrancisco and got a WhatsApp call from Paulo Vidal from Alamo CDG asking about keys. Told him where they were left and why, and he said couldn't find them. Car was fine and had not been touched since drop off, - I had taken photos. I then received within 1-2 days three charges on my cc, $2100, $2300 and $68 all without any invoice or explanation. Contested all and the battle continues..... As mentioned before by other people - AVOID ALAMO in CDG!! Badly run, and crooked. - Not like the service you get in the USA!
