Okay hardware, bad software. Hidden subscription costs.

The hardware itself is quite okay, but the software is not of quality. It's quite limited in what you can configure. If you need certain parameters set you need to call the helpdesk because you can't make all changes yourself. For things like away-from-home detection a subscription is needed. Cloud interaction (which is needed for smart functions on V3+) also require a subscription.

Thank you for the provided information.

Certain changes that affect the heating system are done by our support, so any inconveniences or possible malfunctioning of one's tado° system is prevented by wrongly set parameters. Our team can take a careful look at the particular setup and know best what kind of adjustment is necessary and whether at all possible to be applied depending on the circumstances.

Regarding the Geofencing, that is a feature that has always required a subscription, since the subscription was introduced, but only for full automation of it. Otherwise, it can also be used, only in a restricted manner, as explained in our Help Center.

Cloud communication is not something that requires payment. Once the tado° setup is well set with all required components, all devices communicate through it as it is a principle on which they are based.
