I broke my phone while on a Google Fi plan but also have two step verification. If this happens, it is a huge headache and you will probably lose your number because in order to access your phone number, you need to log into your account and in order to log into your account, you need the phone number. The process has been a nightmare and no one at Google Fi can or will help and there is no way to contact Google to help you with your account. Furthermore, when taking my phone abroad (where it broke), I spent most of the time unable to get service which is why I switched to Google Fi in the first place.

Google does not provide any help or customer service. I have a Google Fi account and my phone broke. I need to log into my account to get my phone number but I could not log into a new device without the phone number. No one at the Google Fi chat could help me and Google account customer service information does not exist. To even cancel Google Fi, I need to get into my account as the Google Fi chat can't even cancel for me.
