Review of Octopus Energy
Frustratingly poor
Octopus installed gas & electricity smart meters in early February. The gas meter was not paired to the electricity meter, so I have to submit manual readings, as with my old meter. I am on Economy 7 day/night tariff. I am billed for the composite Electricity readings Octopus. The units of the old gas meter were in 100 cu ft, the new meter reports in M3. As a result Octopus inflates my costs significantly and also slapped a £2500 surcharge on me. Every "error" equating to Octopus taking more money from me. A lot more. Innumerable messages sent to Octopus support to sort this out. They have done nothing so far (after 3 months). A great way for a wealthy company to give a vulnerable pensioner a kicking. Conclusion: Octopus support and billing system are hopeless. All in, very disappointing - and so far, time wasting and expensive. Don't believe all the hype. PS. You'll not see any Octopus staff, only a range of independent contractors. Covid masks: nil. Promised battery to power your router: none. IHD: none. New wiring for meter: assessed as a poor installation by a professional.
