Heartburn? Who me? Who knew!
First of all, Noah, the adviser who called me, was lovely. Very polite and professional.
The call, which I voluntarily signed up for through an ad on social media, was received on time. I was drawn to the ad by its marketing technique of offering a product which would involve no medicals, some lifestyle questions, and an immediate payout if, going forward, a medical professional diagnosed a terminal illness with an expected life span of less than 12 months.
Before agreeing to be contacted I carried out due diligence on the company by checking it out here on Trustpilot. 4.9* reviews; so far so good.
As mentioned Noah was lovely, and not in any way to blame for what happened during the course of the call.
I found myself becoming very stressed out as I tried to openly and honestly respond to the questions put to me. But whatever system was being used to log my answers, it clearly didn't like that on 2 occasions I couldn't provide either a definitive yes, or no.
Heart murmur: Has it ever been described as either functional or innocent? No, but it's documented as "benign" which, if you Google it, is also referred to as innocent. There was no wiggle room to this one. I have never heard my benign heart murmur described as functional or innocent. But if I say no to this, then the underwriters will not insure me.
(Notwithstanding that at this point I hadn't made up my mind in whether I wanted to go ahead with a life policy, but only because at this point, no cost had been provided) Anyway since Google clearly stated a benign heart murmur is also referred to as "innocent" I chose to respond yes, if only to see where this was going to go.
Heartburn: Yes I've been diagnosed with heartburn. Q- Has that diagnosis ever been investigated or followed up by a specialist? My response was no, but my GP prescribed Omeprazole and I've been on it ever since with no issues. But, have I ever had an endoscopy for this condition? No, but maybe because it was diagnosed after having my gall bladder removed. I've had an endoscopy due to living with Crohn's disease. Does that count? Apparently not; only if the endiscopy was as a result of the heartburn.
By this point we were almost 40 minutes I took the call. My stress levels were rising by the minute and I was becoming quite frustrated. I suggested we bring the call to an end and proceed no further. Noah understood and agreeable, but I think this was because the computer was about to say no.
So here's my summary: if you've ever been prescribed medicine for heartburn, make sure it's followed up by a waste of time, expensive medical procedure, despite it not being remotely necessary (I'm basing this on the fact I'm still alive and had no heartburn in over 20 years 😁)
Noah, you deserve all the accolades, and I'm happy to report my stress levels are dissipating by the minute.
Sun Life will be pleased 😂😂😂
