Good but flawed communication.
In terms of supplying my house with power - Great!
You’ve been knocked down a star because I renewed my contract with yourselves 3 months ago and despite you telling me a new, lower Direct Debit amount, you’re still charging me the old one. No biggie as I can afford to pay it and I don’t mind having a credit for winter but still, would be cool if you kept your word. Lord knows if I owed you money, you’d be on the phone instantly.
My main reason for contacting recently is because my father received an email from yourselves that stated …
“ Your smart meters are going to stop working soon so we need to exchange them.“ 🚩
There was a phone number on the email which was not the main e-on number 🚩 nor could I find this number on the e-on website.
This was followed up by a text from a random phone number and not the company 🚩 asking for his availability to make an appointment to get his meter changed.
Now, in this day and age, 3 red flags such as creating a false sense of urgency, phone numbers that aren’t possible to find on the website and texts from random numbers rather than companies are usually signs of a scam being afoot! And not great for an 80 year old man to receive…
I called e-on on his behalf and checked out the legitimacy of the communications. The Email and the phone number within it were legit but the number that the text was from (although probably a legitimate communication given the rest were) was not on the list of trusted numbers according to the agent I spoke to. He was 10/10. Very helpful, polite and patient. He needs a pay rise!!
I beg you, in the age of scams, please be more aware of your wording in emails, and the methods in which you contact customers. Perhaps a letter correspondence saying that “we’ll need to replace your smart meter within the next 3 months so please contact (main number) and we’ll get you booked in with the team” would be better. Along with a “you’ll be contacted by our team of installation engineers on 07xxx to make a date”.
Thanks for taking the time to read
