Review of RCI Bank

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Good interest rates and solid app

I had never heard of RCI Bank before I opened a personal "Freedom Savings" account. It has a good interest rate, and even though the app looks a little simple or old-fashioned, it works perfectly all the time. I found that transactions in/out with other banks processed quickly

Happy business savings customer

I'm a business customer, mostly using savings accounts. Aldermore has some of the best rates in the market, and the website is simple to use. Accounts can be opened quickly, and you can see transfers quickly reflected in your accounts. Transfers in and out of Aldermore are also processed quickly.

Review of Hamptons

Good experience as house buyers

We weren't direct customers of Hamptons, but we bought a house where the seller was represented by Andrew Gartan of Hamptons in east London. The purchase itself took a while to push through, but Andrew was always quick to take action without being pushy. I would be happy to have him represent us on a house sale.

£50 for address change of 250 metres on car insurance

I recently changed my address on a car insurance policy. The change cost me over £50. When I asked why, they explained "address is a rating factor hence changing it generated a charge so that amount needs to be paid". My new address is 250 metres from my previous address and everything else is unchanged. When I questioned this, the chat agent just pointed out I will lose my insurance if I don't pay.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Mark. We're really sorry to hear about your disappointment.

We understand that moving just a short distance might not seem like it should affect your policy, and we appreciate how frustrating it must feel to be charged for that change. While we’re unable to go into the specifics here, we always aim to be transparent about any costs and ensure our customers are treated fairly.

We’re also sorry if the conversation with our team didn’t feel supportive. That’s not the level of service we strive for.

They missed deadlines, and still want to charge exit fees!

They filed both my annual accounts and corporation tax return late, incurring penalties and interest of £440! They did not warn me that they would be unable to meet the deadlines. They did not apologise for missing the deadlines. They did not provide a reason for missing the deadlines. They did not attempt to rectify the situation until I actively chased them.

In reply to my request to terminate their services, First Freelance insist that I owe them £150 (+VAT) exit fee as well as fees for a notice period of £160 (+VAT). They even went so far as to lie, saying they did not miss any deadlines.

I see many other positive reviews here, so maybe it just depends on who you get.

Review of Interactive Brokers

Terrible customer service and they don't take responsibility for their errors

The software and commissions are good, but beware everything else. Connectivity is poor and customer service is non-existent.

Interactive Brokers made an execution error on an option contract for me (it turns out the option contract did not exist!). They then magically reached into my account to "reverse" the incorrect transaction, leaving me with the hedging stock position. Needless to say, they took the winning position and left me with the losing position, down EUR 1,000 on the trade, instead of up EUR 500 with the option contract.

To make matters worse, my complaint has gone completely unanswered for two weeks.

UPDATE 2021-04-01: Interactive Brokers finally responded to my complaint, and rejected it. It is apparently their policy to execute fake trades [i.e. product does not exist] on your account, and then after reversing the fake trades, they leave you to clean up the mess of the hedging trades [which are real] at your own cost! I am now forced to contact the financial ombudsman for their assistance.
