Warning if you are using Android…
Warning if you are using Android devices - I was excited when I ordered my first HD WiFi bird box camera kit. The reviews on the Green Feathers (GF) website but also on Trustpilot were very good, praising their customer service. The kit arrived, and all seemed good. However, i started running into issues with the camera connecting to the Android GF app. It wasn't possible to telephone customer service due to Covid-19, so I duly emailed (28th Jan). I received a reply 2nd Feb apologising for the lateness, as they were very busy, and asking me if I had followed all of the setup guides (yes!). After a few more emails back and forth, I gave up and called their sales line, and after promises to return my call on three occasions, finally managed to speak to a tech person. It seems that GF have had to change to a new camera chip supplier last year, and so the NCIP3WF camera model is using a new chip, which by their own admission, isn't fully compatible with their own app; they had a test camera setup which was behaving the same as mine. They suggested I use the Tuya app, a third party app on which their one is based. This did work, but then produced a different connecting issue. After admitting defeat, I returned the camera using their returns system (they received the camera back in the office on the Monday, I followed up on the Wed and they replied on the Thurs to say they still needed to look at it). After more chasing and phoning their tech support line, GF admitted that there was also an issue with the Tuya app and latest Android version, which many smartphones use. I did get a refund, and that drew a line under the matter.
I do have a couple of recommendations for Green Feathers.
(1) I appreciate that everyone is busy during these challenging times during the C-19 pandemic, but that shouldn't be used as an excuse for poor customer service. Please don't ignore your existing customers in your quest for new business. I shouldn't have had to chase and chase to get the issues sorted.
(2) Please be honest about the challenges around sourcing a new chip supplier and known issues with your own smartphone application and Android versions. There was no mention of this anywhere on the guidance documentation you provide. If I had known this sooner, it would have saved everyones time.
Addition following Green Feather reply: Note that I was using Android 10 and still had the aforementioned issues, so possibly not just linked to Android version 11.
Update (Sept '21): Has the GF app been updated to work with the new (back in Feb '21) NCIP3WF? Noting issues with latest Android version?
