Security Guard issues / MANGO Dublin / Henry Street
On the afternoon of November 23, 2024, I was entering the MANGO store (Henry Street) when I came across a package of chocolate on the store floor (which was smooth, in a marbled style) after the metal doors. I considered leaving the paper there but then decided to remove it since some older person could get their foot caught in this package and have an accident. Seeing no trash in sight, I showed it to the security guard, who kept his arms crossed and completely ignored me while I was speaking. Noticing the situation indignantly, I left the paper on his crossed arms (Please watch the store's security cameras to ensure the correct version) when he finally decided to respond to me. He reacted by shouting that he was not the store's cleaner and that it was not his responsibility! It was with this same scandal that he went to the manager (she was in the middle of the store) saying that "I had thrown" the paper at him (something that is not in my character) and that he was not the cleaner!
I was absolutely perplexed by the scandal he caused. Firstly, because I had never had or imagined going through a situation like that at the MANGO store; secondly, because the only person who was not responsible for that packaging was me, a long-time customer of the store who reconsidered after knowing that it might prevent accidents (especially with older people); thirdly, because I was completely ignored and shocked by a security guard who was clearly showed no concern or respect MANGO customers.
Note that when he went to the manager, I also went to her to explain what had happened. While I was trying to defend myself by explaining what had happened, he kept saying that I had "thrown" trash at him and that he was not a cleaner.
Obviously, that wasn't what happened, but I noticed that for this man (based on how he acted and reported what had happened), being a cleaner meant that he considered cleaner activities inferior to the ones he performs.
So I said, "What is the problem with being a cleaner? "What would be the problem for you? Would that be humiliating for you? "And he said, "But I'm not a cleaner! "And I said, "Am I a cleaner as well? "I'm not, but reporting a piece of paper on the floor (considering many elderly people around the store) or removing it under any circumstances should be a very noble attitude (as a cleaner or not).
While I was answering, he told the manager that he would remove me from the store and asked me to leave. And I replied, Who are you? I'm not a robber! I'm honest, I was helping the store avoid future problems, and I'm usually spending much money here! You're not empowered to do that (I was already very nervous). What I was going through was unbelievable after picking up a piece of paper from the floor of a store considered to be high-end, and precisely by someone who is clearly not aligned with the perspectives of the consumers who frequent it.
The manager asked him to return to his place. In the meantime, I talked to the manager, who listened to me a little longer but seemed more concerned with the security guard's version of events than with mine as a customer. Not that she is not attentive, but she was clearly unprepared to understand the situation and preferred to believe the supposed "customer-distancing" co-worker. Even so, I thanked her for listening to me and after walking around the store (it was a matter of dignity for me not to be treated like a criminal or humiliated for having done the right thing), I talked to some customers who asked me what had happened and they themselves told me: "Don't spend any at this store again! That is no manner to treat a customer!"
However, when I was leaving the store, I crossed the security guard at the door, who was with the store's manager (the same young lady with black hair, not very tall. Forgive me, they told me her name, but that time I was already exhausted), and another lady with short and blonde hair. I thanked her for listening, but I had to repeat my version of the facts to the other lady while the security guard was still saying: I'm not a cleaner! To finalize, I said: "If this offends you, call someone from the hygiene crew or a store employee to help with that next time! You are working here or not? Everyone is responsible for the hygiene and safety of customers". I exited, leaving the conversation without continuing because I was already exhausted, but I was informed that everything would be duly reported.
