I gave into the hype
I gave into the hype. Don't.
Peloton bike is well made, heavy and sturdy. But it lacks the opportunity to move handlebars forward and back (only up and down). For people with certain body types (short torso, long legs), it will be impossible to ride the bike comfortably or adjust it suitably. I now have elbow pain that I never had before from leaning forward to grip handlebars. There is a very expensive aftermarket product you can buy to fix this. Now I just ride without using my hands. Pretty dumb for a bike that costs over £2k.
If you a music lover without specific tastes, you'll enjoy the classes where the music is the main thing. For my favorite music genre there is very few class options. Why not have community soundtracks, from users? Peloton takes a strict approach with content on the app and hardware, rather than listening to the community.
Peloton used to have a lot of relaxing scenic rides to explore the world by bike during lockdown. Their most recent feature update ditched all of these and kept only a handful, focusing only on those with special soundtracks. Big mistake. Why not keep everything?
Monthly subscription price is high and you feel locked into it. Many of the live classes are not in the European or UK time zone-- also their customer service is not in this time zone-- they are overly focused on USA market, European one is an afterthought.
Their onboarding process tells you a lot about how they think about customer service and the customer experience. Which is, a lot of things are lacking. Especially during covid-19. Rather than turning customers into devotees, it's clear that once you bought the bike, they've done their job. Because the bike is pretty limited without the monthly service, you're a captive consumer.
There is a 30day return period. Make use of it to see if it's right for you. I was too concerned about getting it down the stairs (it weighs a million pounds) to avail of it. I wish I did.
