Review of CeX/WeBuy - United Kingdom

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

A hard review to write but I feel that…

A hard review to write but I feel that I must share how I have been treated by this company. I have had a CEX account for well over a decade and have sold and bought from them a lot in the past I I believed that they had gamers interests at heart, despite the usually high prices. However, a few weeks back I encountered an issue that has ended unpleasantly. I have been on the look out for a certain Steelbook, a hard to find UK Zavvi release. I logged in one night and saw that they had two copies of it. I instantly bought them both as I know that there are other on the collecting community who would want a copy. Then days later, they arrived and they were not the hard find Steelbooks but the GERMAN Steelpaks of this release that are very easy to find. They were not what was advertised on the website at all, totally different cover art as well. I emailed customer service who advised I could take them to my local store for a refund or exchange. I took them in, the staff looked over them and it was agreed that they were different to the website. The products were still stickered from CEX. I received my refund. A few days ago I tried to log into my account to be told I was suspended. After a lengthy back and forward with customer service on email (don't forget, there is no phone number for CEX) while they tried to "look into it" I received an email stating this:

"The relevant team has decided that your WeBuy account will remain suspended for an indefinite time. We have experienced an anomaly in your previous returns. The items that were dispatched for the order, and the ones which were returned do not match, as a result, the account is suspended."

Now in theory I totally agree with this. The items I returned were not the ones that were ordered. BECAUSE CEX SENT THE WRONG ONES IN THE FIRST PLACE!

And that's it. No further emails from the despite my explaining. So I no longer have an account with them. After many years of being a loyal customer. It really feels like a kick in the teeth as I am brand loyal and do choose who I shop with based on their ethics but it's clear now that CEX are more interested in selling phones than looking after their original fanbase. A word of advice. If you wan't to buy from them, go to eBay first. You will always get it cheaper there. CEX sometimes sell things at a higher price second hand than you can buy for brand new on Amazon as well. Shop around. Also, if selling, try Cash Converters. They will always beat CEX's price by a £1 and it's a faster selling process.

I know this is an essay but I wanted a thorough explanation as to why I'm giving a one star review. I've also noticed today how fast CEX respond to comments on here. A lot faster than they reply to their customer service emails which have a 48 hour response time. Make of that what you will.

Hello Barry,

Thank you for taking the time to review us.

I'm sorry to know about the chain of events that occurred following your

Whilst I understand your disappointment, however, the decision was taken after investigating it with the sourcing store themselves, who confirmed that the item returned was not the one sent out to you, even though it was incorrect.

I will be replying to your email shortly and in case you have any further concerns, feel free to reply to the ongoing email thread and I'll be there to assist you.

Regards,
Imran
