Review of The Organic Protein Co.

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Easy to mix and tastes good

This protein shake powder mixes well and tastes better and more natural than any of the other protein shakes I've tried. Probably because it has a fraction of the UPF's and additives that other manufacturers use in their products.

Review of Hilton Hotels

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Don’t stay at the Edinburgh Carlton Hilton

I recommended staying at the Edinburgh Carlton Hilton hotel in April 2024 to colleagues from Canada. Reason being
it’s close to the High Street and centrally located. I stayed there several times pre-pandemic, when it was a decent hotel. On arrival this Hilton was more like a building site with temporary check-in desk,
boarding which sealed off the entire main front lobby, main staircase, bar and dining room areas. There was a strong smell of cement dust and other chemical smells throughout the hotel. On the upper floors there was more boarding and dining room with no windows, and a small temporary bar with limited choice of food and drink. My colleagues and I also shared this space with several mice which were running around the bar area while the staff watched and laughed. We didn’t find this so amusing as we’d just ordered food. There was no pre-warning given at any stage when reserving rooms. If an honest appraisal of the state of this hotel had been given at time of booking, neither my colleagues or I would have stayed here. Reason I’m writing this review now is that I called Hilton ‘Customer Services’ on 3 separate occasions to report the experience. I asked for management’s feedback but nearly 3mths later, I’ve had zero response from anyone at the Hilton Carlton hotel or customer services.

Review of The AA Insurance

Dont use the AA for Insurance - Overrated & Overpriced

After driving over a deep pothole at speed, then over a speed bump at slow speed some 30 min later, my 9-yr old BMW 5 Series suspension suffered a catastrophic failure. This could have resulted in serious physical injuries to myself and my passengers, but through sheer luck it happened at slow speed. The AA insisted on finding an approved garage to conduct a review and repair, however after more than 10 days they'd failed to find a garage willing or able to do the work, so I had to find a local garage myself. The garage agreed the suspension failure was unprecedented, and could have been extremely serious had it occurred when I hit the pothole. After a couple of weeks waiting for the AA to respond, the garage repaired the suspension for £2000.00. Having chased up the AA several times I finally received a blunt 60 second call from some engineer who advised me they would not be honouring my insurance claim as the suspension failure was considered a warranty issue. Despite arguing my case at length, with supporting statement from the local garage, I was left out of pocket. The AA's suggestion that BMW should cover the failed suspension on a 9-yr old car was a ridiculous on. The AA then had the nerve to increase my insurance premium by over 300%. Poor service, poor communication and a poor decision to refuse a perfectly legitimate claim. Needless to say I would never use or recommend the AA to anyone.

Review of RingGo - The UK Pay by Phone Parking App

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Zero stars for useless Ringo app that doesn’t work & a company which doesn’t give a damn about motorists

If it was possible to give zero stars that’s what I’d give Ringo and their owners. The app is useless and doesn’t provide accurate location info, so have been penalised by nauseatingly greedy car park owners who relentlessly pursue law abiding car drivers for payment of extortionate fines or ‘penalties’. Ringo evidently aligns itself with the likes of Parking Eye and other robbing semi-legitimate parking management companies, who’s sole aim is to rip off motorists for as much as they possibly can.

Review of Travel Unravel Holidays

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Family holiday flight bookings

I needed to book flights via TravelUnravel when Easyjet’s website was down for several days & Easyjet customer services were unavailable to take bookings by phone. Morris from TravelUnravel was very helpful in booking group flights, and provided regular updates. He was also able to make flight departure date changes very close to our original date of travel. A professional service and a good experience overall.

Flybe's new restricted roll-on baggage policy is a false economy

Flybe has taken a serious wrong turn for the wrong reasons due to some exec at Flybe's HQ, deciding that a reduced size, "Ryan Air-type" baggage policy was a good idea. I bought a 50x40x16cm roll-on bag a few years ago, which fits perfectly into Flybe's much smaller than average overhead lockers (UK domestic flights). Although a few cm wider than Flybe's new reduced dimensions 55x35x20cm, its overall volume is less than Flybe's size. Flybe is now ripping-off its long standing customers to the tune of £40.00 per single flight, which clearly places customer care and convenience at the bottom of their Board's list of priorities. All the negative publicity Flybe has generated for itself is likely to backfire and further limit their chances of survival in a highly competitive market, where the most successful & profitable airlines generally have the highest level of customer satisfaction.

Review of Owners Direct

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Poor Service from Owners Direct (now aka Home Away)

Owners Direct (aka Home Away) provided me with the worst holiday booking experience I've ever had in over 20 years of renting holiday villas in Spain & France. Owners Direct's "approved Spanish agent" (a property rental company), claimed to speak fluent English on his website, but in reality did not speak or understand a word. I booked a family villa with pool for 2 weeks then after paying the total amount in full, was then told by the Spanish agent that a further £350-£400 was chargeable for use of towels bed linen & air-con. I have never encountered this type of extra charge in 20 years of renting villas in Spain or France, where all these services have been included in the quoted rental price. I complained about this issue to both the Spanish agent and to Owners Direct's HQ Customer Services in London. Owners Direct/Home Away agreed that their own website & price quoted clearly stated; "No Additional Charges are Applicable for this Booking", however they refused to do anything whatsoever to assist, instead referring me back to their Spanish agent who in the meantime had actually cancelled my booking without informing me! I then had to claim back the £3k rental fee I'd paid in good faith, while trying to locate another suitable family villa at short notice. Finally got my money back minus £100 due to exchange rates - Owners Direct/Home Away have failed to respond to my further requests to even compensate me for this amount. The Owners Direct legal rep was exceedingly slimy in stating; "Although we are concerned, since we are only an advertising company, we do not get involved in any contractual issues". Owners Direct/Home Away represent the property owners & property rental agents only and obviously could not care less about the paying customer. (Having said that judging by all the negative reviews given by property owners, it seems Owners Direct/Home Away are equally useless at dealing with these customers too!). Hopefully this means Owners Direct/Home Away will lose all of their future business to more user friendly and customer focused property rental organisations such as AirBNB, etc. I suspect the name change from Owners Direct to Home Away is simply an attempt to disguise their awful reputation for customer service. I for one despite this disgraceful company's change of identity will never use or recommend them again.

Reply from Owners Direct

Dear Nick,

We regret to hear that your experience was a negative one. It is correct that as we are an advertising site we are not responsible for rates or cancellations. However, we strongly recommend that our property owners ensure that their rates and other information are correct on their property listing. In reference to the exchange rates, although there would be no charges from us, your bank may charge conversion charges due to currency switch, which unfortunately we cannot cover. We have consolidated the Owners Direct brand into HomeAway in order to focus our resources and investments to create a much stronger and more competitive single brand.
