Ripped off

Ripped off. Received nothing like what I ordered (supposedly adjustable wheels for moving furniture) and they don't respond. A total scam.

Excellent boots

Excellent boots. Delighted with customer service.
I own Lowa Cadin, Explorer II and Camino Evo boots for hillwalking and mountain trekking every 2nd weekend. The Cadin are a great boot for Munro bagging. The Camino Evo is a long distance trekking boot and the Explorer is an A/B grade boot which can take rougher trails or some off trail use if necessary. I have worn Rangers in the past and they were great.
I have Lowa Amplux for trail running.

I'm my experience, all Lowa boots are well made but need to be worn and maintained, same as any other footwear made of leather and with PU soles. If you want to avoid issues with sole delamination then learn about hydrolysis. Don't store your boots wet, or in a humid location, wear them regularly and you should get years out of them, like I have.

I have found the UK customer service rep to be outstanding to deal with. I just can't relate to the negative reviews.

Review of Meindl - Shoes For Actives

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I bought a pair of Meindl Comfort Fit…

I bought a pair of Meindl Comfort Fit hiking shoes after trying on a lot of pairs in the store. over 18 months later I can confirm
1) The shoes are still waterproof despite being worn at least 50% of the time and on easy coastal walks.
2) The soles are still grippy and haven't worn down.
3) No stitching has opened and the soles haven't detached.
4) The shoes look great, with maintenance using Meindl cleaner, and proofer / conditioner. No cracking in the leather or eyelets detached. The only sign of wear is some pilling of the fabric at the heels (not fraying yet) and I had to replace the insoles with the same comfort fit sport models.

I was so satisfied with the purchase I bought another pair of Meindl shoes recently, which are also fine despite taking them scrambling the last 5 weekends. Looking at these reviews it's like I purchased the only good pairs of Meindl shoes in the world but somehow I doubt that's the case.

I've bought Meindl shoes since the late 90s and I'm not going to lie, I don't feel the quality is at the same level as it was then. Boots in general are lighter and more comfortable now but manufacturing and quality control have perhaps suffered for most brands. My mid 2000s Islands stand out at as the best made footwear I have bought, along with a beautiful pair of Church's brogues.

I also wouldn't have any interest in buying an Asian-made Meindl shoe and I don't think they should make any shoes outside the EU. The company has a premium brand for European-made shoes and needs to protect that for long term profitability.

However, I can only judge Meindl on what I've purchased and they have been very good. I hope whatever QC issues exist can be fixed but my experience has been positive. My friends who buy Meindl Bhutans, Islands & Air Revolution shoes have also had good experiences in recent years.

Great shoes and customer support

Great shoes and customer support. I bought 2 pairs of shoes in Germany and had customer support from the UK helping me with a issue requiring new laces. They raised no issue about this, no fobbing off, no "contact the retailer or any of that nonsense you get from some. other manufacturers.

The shoes are very well made, are standing up to hard wear hiking every weekend, and they still look great thanks to maintenance with Lowa cleaner, conditioner and proofer. The comfort is exceptional.

I don't really understand the negative reviews, most of which appear down to the physics & chemistry of hydrolysis which Lowa can't do anything about. PU soles rebound better over long hikes but will degrade if not stored absolutely dry and worn frequently. In 25 years of owning PU soled boots, it's only happened to me once & I learned from that.

The UK distributor has also been helpful in addressing any fit issues. When a pair of boots I ordered didn't fit, they identified a pair that would based on photos and feedback. They got it spot on and I've put over 150 km on those boots since. Only positive experiences so 5 stars!

Review of eXXpozed - sports & fashion

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Disappointed customer

I have given eXXpozed more than enough opportunity to fix this before leaving a negative review. I have been a customer of theirs since 2019. I have made 10 orders in that time.

Up until November of 2022 I had never had to make a return. I received all orders and mostly around the indicated delivery time. Therefore a 1-star review is not warranted.

I received a pair of boots in November 2022 that didn't fit correctly. Unfortunately, my wife had accidentally disposed of the returns form and I emailed the store about their returns policy and to ask if they could email me a new returns form? I sent 3 emails in December about the returns form without a single response.

On 29th December I received the email that other reviewers have referred to
"For technical reasons, we unfortunately have to close your ticket from December 12th." This was a generic email and made no reference to the specific query about the return.

In frustration, I posted the parcel back on 4th January with the invoice and a letter noting the reason for the return. I also emailed the store to note the return. No response.

I then phoned customer support in the UK (worried about the complaints on Trustpilot) on the 16th January and asked why there seemed to be a problem receiving my return? It subsequently turned out that the postal company HAD delivered the return to the store based on their own records. It was evident that the customer support person in the UK did not have access to the order system because he didn't understand VAT was paid on my order (it's on the invoice) and should not have been a "customs issue" in processing the return.

I'm sure the representative thought he was being helpful but I felt like I was trying to piece together what was happening here in the absence of eXXpozed being able to process a return correctly. I emailed the store about this on 17th January requesting my refund to be processed and again, no response. By this stage, I had sent 4 emails and the parcel and received no response except the generic and unhelpful "close your ticket" email.

In the past, I had emailed eXXpozed before and gotten a helpful response (or at least best efforts) so whatever is happening in the last few months is unusual but that doesn't make it any less frustrating.

It's clear to me that eXXpozed does not have a reliable returns process and I don't think the lack of response or delays in processing the return are acceptable. The site is not a "scam" as some have said but they need to improve their customer service. I would now be very wary of ordering anything that I may have to return.

EDIT 23/1/2023: I've received an email from Anna and understand the refund has now been processed.

Review of Tradeinn

I have had many positive experiences…

I have had many positive experiences with Tradeinn over the last 5 years. They have a huge range of products and sometimes there are delays in getting the item shipped. Once you accept that the delivery date is inaccurate then it's fine. That's why I'm deducting a star because the "receive by" statement has never been accurate in 5 years of using the site. Sometimes the item is shipped from Spain to Ireland within a week and other times it takes 2-3 weeks to be sent. That would be rare but it can happen and the reason is almost always an item that isn't in stock with partner "delivery issues". This is not unusual for these warehousing operations. Perhaps some customers expect everything is in stock but they have over 2 million products so that is not realistic.

Some products ship immediately and others are delayed in transit to the warehouse. If you contact customer support they will honestly tell you what's happening. Only once in thousands of Euro of orders (in excess of 50 orders) over the last few years have they failed to send me an item and they explained it was down to the manufacturer discontinuing the item & having limited stock, which was independently verified with the Swedish manufacturer.

I have also never received a product from the site that arrived damaged or wasn't what it was supposed to be. Just to be clear, not a single incorrect order sent out in the last 50.

Customer support is prompt. I have rarely had to wait more than 6 hours for a response. Compare that to some other websites (a particular German one springs to mind) where I've failed to get a response in 3 weeks and no return processed in 2 months.

Tradeinn returns are usually straightforward and use DHL. Repayments of cancelled orders are prompt. Return repayments are processed VERY quickly. Typically within 3-4 days of the item being entered into the DHL delivery system (by courier collection or a parcel shop). Compared to other websites selling similar products I've found Tradeinn to be decent. They are not a scam in any way. Not perfect but they do their best.

Review of Merrell

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Comfortable shoes that fit like gloves

Comfortable lightweight hiking shoes & they fit well.
I've been buying Merrell for years and probably will continue to do so. The only issue, and it's not a small one, is they have sacrificed some durability for that comfort. Almost all my Merrell shoes for over 20 years have been Goretex lined and in the last decade they develop the same wear pattern on the heel and toe box.
Most of these shoes started to leak within a year despite caring for them as specified. It's not a big problem for me because I just replace them. Merrells aren't very expensive and I get them on sale. The longest lasting pair were MOAB Mid's which lasted 3 years before leaking and the worst were a pair of Chameleons that lasted about 8 months.

Mostly they have had high traction soles and worked well for light hiking and scrambling. The Chameleons 6s & 7s didn't have the greatest sole design but the 8s are a hit in shoe and boot form. Sturdier and very grippy.
The Moab FST range is a great casual shoe with great comfort for fast hiking. You've got to put huge mileage on these to get blisters in my experience. The same is not true for some stiffer footwear and I suspect the relatively pliant footbed is part of the Merrell's success.

I totally understand that there are compromises to all clothing design but in my experience some other manufacturers make more durable shoes. In terms of comfort however, Merrells fit like gloves and that's been the case for every shoe I've bought from them for the last 2 decades.
I can definitely recommend Merrell but know what you're getting.

Review of HellyHansen

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Absolutely love my HH HP Lifaloft…

Absolutely love my HH HP Lifaloft Racing Midlayer.
It's got a ridiculously long name but has been superb as a lightly insulated waterproof jacket for spring and summer. Helly has a reputation for being expensive (and that's valid) but the racing midlayer is cheap for how useful it has been.
Also love their lifa/merino base layers and anything I've bought in the Odin / Verglas ranges. Top quality stuff. I recommended a friend by all Helly gear for an adventure holiday in Iceland and her clothing worked very well with big temperature ranges, blizzards, whiteouts, sleet & biting winds. She's an experienced hiker and now a big Helly fan too.
My wife's favourite is the Alpha Lifaloft ski jacket which in Ireland is a great winter & autumn jacket. Just the right amount of insulation and very waterproof. Helly stuff can be expensive but they regularly have sales & their customer service is excellent.

Still a great company

Great company, best warranty in the business & they're not responsible for global logistics problems so cut them some slack.

I'm happy to shop with them and satisfied to recommend Patagonia to others. It's important to realise they're making high performance products and sometimes the focus is on weight and packability rather than outright durability. They stand by their warranty however.

Review of Haglöfs

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Good experiences over the years

I have bought more than 40 items of clothing and equipment from Haglofs including jackets, parkas, pants, hats, gloves, bags, sleeping bags etc.
I own items from all the major brands including Arcteryx & Patagonia. I keep coming back to Haglofs as the quality is very high and the fit is perfect for me.

No product is perfect but I don't recognise any of the gear I've purchased in some of these reviews. My Roc Nordic Pro jacket has seen serious abrasion & pack usage with no damage at all. I have multiple variants of mimic (Roc Mimic & V series) and they are all warm & durable. No breakdown of insulation or signs of poor quality construction.

I have 3 Haglofs packs which have stood up to some abuse. A Tight VX, a Katla and an Angd. At no stage have I thought these were poor quality or that Haglofs "knows they are poor quality" as another reviewer said.

Their pants are virtually indestructible. I still have some small scars on my legs after an accident scrambling where amazingly, the Rugged Mountain pants I was wearing were perfect. Much more durable than I am :) The same applies to my Rugged Mountain Pro & super comfortable Rugged Flex pants. Absolutely brilliant pants with freedom of movement, wind-proofing & durable materials.

However some realism is required here. Haglofs is making performance gear which is often designed to be light and packable. There will ALWAYS be durability sacrifices to achieve this. Pertex Quantum is not indestructible for example and while it saves weight it's possible your down or mimic jacket could be damaged in use. If you just want a jacket to walk the dog & don't care about weight then perhaps look elsewhere. If you climb mountains with your dog or go on long treks over the weekend then this may be the brand for you. Understand what you are buying.

Customer support on Haglofs.com has been positive such that they have helped me track down items I couldn't buy from them with other online retailers.
If you look at the reviews there are really positive ones like mine and an equal number of very negative reviews with nothing in between. This is statistically unlikely so what's happening appears to be the only people who review are very unhappy and some people like me then give positive reviews to balance it out.

I won't dock a star but I note that Haglofs should adopt a more Patagonia-like warranty but even then, just look at the Trustpilot reviews for that company. Again, no relation to my experience or the experience I would suggest of many Patagonia customers with reasonable expectations. I have some minor niggles with Haglofs product design but I understand why the company has made the design decisions they have. The overall impression I have is a company responsibly run by outdoor gear lovers for outdoor gear lovers.

Review of Isobaa Merino

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Good quality merino products - close fitting

Good quality merino products. I bought a v neck, a sweatshirt, a half-zip top and a hoodie. Everything is well made, robustly stitched, with no problems after a few months of wear. I don't really understand the small number of reviewers whose clothes have lots of holes but I'd suggest they check their houses for clothes moths as I had this problem a few years back with some very expensive merino gear. My only note of caution here is the sizing. It's quite athletic and so I had to size up to XXL when I'm an XL in most European brands such as Helly Hansen and Haglofs. Even then the XXL is tight fitting. I'm 6"1 with a 45 inch chest and about 215-220lb. I guess they're keeping the fit close because they're making base layers & they want to keep it consistent across the range but the sweaters and hoodies are similarly tight.

Review of ergohuman.net

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Great value from a very helpful company

I purchased a Mirus for my partner's office. Excellent experience of a fast purchase, a clear and simple website to identify the options I wanted, a helpful sales person who sorted out an EU VAT exempt corporate purchase, and prompt delivery to Ireland within 3 working days of payment being processed. Thanks to both Caroline and Iain who made this purchase so easy.

When the chair arrived it was very well packaged and easy to assemble. The mesh-backed Mirus is very comfortable and highly adjustable. The build quality appears very good, if not quite at the level of say Herman Miller or Steelcase, but it's close. (I have a new Aeron in the office & an RH Logik in my study so I have high quality chairs to compare this against) However, it's a much cheaper chair and ErgoHuman do more "luxurious" pricier models with more polished aluminium and leather upholstery. This is nitpicking however as there's a sturdiness and heft to the Mirus' aluminium components and it's an effective design. I've spent more from local office suppliers on chairs that weren't half as good! If you have around £450-500 quid to spend on an office chair then this should be on your list. It's fantastic "bang for buck"

The tapering back with adjustable height & seat depth enable it to fit a wide range of people. The pivoting lumbar support spreads support over the entire flat of my back and the cushion distributes weight effectively with no obvious pressure points. My partner has lower back pain and she said this is the most comfortable day sitting she's had in years, once she dialed in the many adjustments correctly. Take the time to set it up properly. The single lever adjustment is also clever and unique to ErgoHuman. All things considered this chair is brilliant value for money. I might try an ErgoHuman Plus next.

Review of SportPursuit

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

No catch - they've saved me thousands

It's important to understand what SportsPursuit is and isn't. They're not Amazon. When you buy from SportPursuit they're going to try and procure the item you order from the inventory (possibly overstock) of the many brands they sell. Some of these are in their own warehouses and others are obtained from the supplier. It's not the case that everything in stock however. Very rarely in my experience, they actually can't get the item and will need to refund you but they will almost always get the item for you at a price that you couldn't dream of paying elsewhere. I've bought outdoor gear from well-known brands that appeared factory fresh in full packaging when it arrived. Want that alpine shell or high performance down jacket that costs €500-€600 quid retail? Check SportPursuit and you'll probably pay far less. Some items were dispatched immediately and others took a bit of time but in my experience the predictions on-checkout were accurate and you can make a decision between what items you're going to buy based on how quickly they estimate dispatch. The shipping used is prompt and inexpensive. You have a choice of consolidating items or shipping when they're ready. The returns process is fast and very convenient. The staff are extremely helpful, professional and the company honours product warranties. There isn't a catch. it's a bloody brilliant online retailer that has saved me thousands of Euro on outdoor gear and gifts over the past few years. I've recommended family members use them and they've had the same experience; great products at often eye-watering discounts. If you have expensive hobbies like climbing or skiing then the savings when replacing gear for a new season really start to rack up. I'm always disappointed when I can't get a particular product on SportsPursuit because it generally means I'll have more hassle and pay more elsewhere.
