Generally excellent

Visit Rheged regularly- probably 2-3 times.month and find it generally excellent. Outdoor equipment shop has a good range of gear, other shops always have an interesting range of goods, cinema excellent and good value for money, deli great for gifts.

If I could know off half a star, it'd be for the variable quality of the food offering. The menus always look great but the reality is often chaotic with sometimes disappointing food.

Overall, a great resource for the local area though.

Great products, unenthusiastic service

Have worn Inov8 running shoes for over 20 years now for use on trails, road and fell and never had a problem. Comfortable, durable and always do the job they're intended for- can't remember the last time I bought another brand.

Since moving closer to the Inov8 store at the Forge in Staveley, I usually buy in person rather than online. Product range remains excellent but the service just seems unenthusiastic and lacking in any real interest in customers even when quiet- could be so much better.

Potentially lethal driving

I was subject to highly dangerous and aggressive driving by a Furdeco driver on the M6- tailgating and horn honking before cutting in at speed and undertaking, putting several vehicles at risk.

I called Furdeco to report this and spoke to a call handler who failed to apologise, showed little interest and seemed irritated by my call. He promised to pass on my details to the transport team so they could call me for more details but unsurprisingly, there was no call.

Since discussed with West Midlands Police who will review dashcam footage of the incident.

UPDATE: Complaint acknowledged only after submitting this review. Communication minimal, no significant attempt to gather information or discuss further, no explanation why initial complaint was not responded to. Overall, very unimpressed at the response to a serious and reputation damaging incident.

FURTHER UPDATE: No further feedback received. Passive aggressive/defensive attitude throughout. Extremely disappointing response to what was potentially life threatening driving.

Genuinely terrible

From a recruiter’s perspective, Indeed is possibly the worst company I have to deal with. The whole platform seems geared to maximising revenue without taking any responsibility for the effectiveness of the service offered. Customer support is genuinely the poorest I’ve ever encountered- slow, unresponsive, unhelpful and seemingly unable to resolve even the most basic issue without causing immense frustration. This opinion isn’t based on a single experience, but many years of reluctantly dealing with this terrible company.

Gone downhill

Been a GF customer for 30+ years and still call in a couple of times a month, albeit mainly for the excellent (independently run) coffee shop on the top floor.

The store itself is an attractive and well laid out space with good range of items, mainly from premium brands. However service and, to some extent, pricing, are where things start to go wrong.

In pretty much every other outdoors store I visit in the Lakes, staff are warm, chatty and eager to offer advice, but too many GF staff just look as though they’d rather be elsewhere and make little if any effort to engage unless approached. Overall, service feels mechanical and staff look generally bored/fed up.

Price-wise, premium products are always going to be costly, so I’ll usually shop around for big ticket items and almost always find a better deal in one of the many local competitors. Even during sales, the reduced items seem to be very limited and reductions are rarely more than 10-20%.

Maybe GF’s more of a tourist destination nowadays, happy to make its money from visitors keen to buy some kit during their holiday, and less bothered about service and value? Certainly, for anyone living locally, there are plenty of stores that seem to pay more attention to generating repeat customers.

First few pairs I bought were great- comfortable, well-designed and durable. On this basis, I ordered 5 pairs from the website which I had some quality issues with but Stance were quick to respond and put things right. Great customer service.

Unreliable and poor value

Nice looking product which feels good in the hand. However, handwriting to text conversion was unreliable and overall functionality is very limited for a device at this price point.

Even worse, the device stopped charging after a few weeks and customer service from this point onwards was very poor. Eventually obtained a replacement which I've since sold on Ebay as I really can't see myself getting value from this product.

Bought numerous items from Finisterre over the last couple of years and have always found them to be good quality and well designed. Staff always helpful and friendly. Prices can be a little on the high side at times so it’s worth looking out for sales.

Genuinely one of the worst companies…

Genuinely one of the worst companies I’ve dealt with in 25+ years in business.

Clueless customer service, rarely speaking to the same person twice or finding anyone able to give a straight answer to a question.

Staff seem more interested in selling new equipment and tying customers into expensive contracts rather than repairing existing equipment. Response time often slow with parts slow to arrive.

Interesting to see how many of the supposed 5* reviews on Trustpilot are from users with no previous reviews. I have my suspicions about how these reviews are generated.

UPDATE: message received from JLA (see below) but no comment on the history on 5* reviews from Trustpilot users with no previous review history. Stopped doing business with JLA last year so it’s too late to resolve issues now- there were ample opportunities when my business was still a customer.

Good value and easy to deal with but …

Good value and easy to deal with but renewal quote was higher than expected. Called to discuss and was offered cheaper price. Would've been preferable simply to have been offered this price in the first place.
