Hive EV charger? You're locked in!

If you buy a hive EV charger, you are obliged to use one of their approved installers, otherwise they invalidate your guarantee (and I guess you probably can't commission the unit either).

You can be a NICEIC registered, time served and fully qualified electrician, but as they're not accepting any more installers onto their register, the electrician will invalidate your warranty if they fit it.

Hive should make it clear that you are locked in to their installers - although I'm not sure on the legality of withdrawing a warranty on a product that has been properly and competently installed..

Hello Matt,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We're sorry to hear about your concerns regarding the EV charger installation and warranty. We aim to ensure transparency around our installation process, and the following message is clearly displayed on our website. Customers must acknowledge this by checking a box before adding the EV charger to their basket:

“We recommend professional installation.
If you don’t opt for a safe and professional installation through ChargedEV or British Gas, you'll need a qualified EO-certified expert to install your charger to validate your warranty. Find your nearest one here.

Please check the box to confirm you understand the warranty conditions.”

EO, the manufacturer of the chargers, requires that installation is carried out by an EO-certified professional in order for the warranty to be valid.

To allow us to reach out directly I have sent you an information request via Trustpilot - which allows me to access your account and reach out.

Kind regards, Alan
