Do not get a mortgage with HSBC or sell to anyone who is
We are selling our house. The purchaser had an offer from HSBC. At the 11th hour they objected to a standard clause in the title deed from Barrets builders that is common to all the houses they build. The clause is intended to maintain the visual appearance of the estate which is 9 years old. No other lender has ever raised an issue but HSBC want a deed of variation which naturally has been declined as they would have to change it for every other property they built. Despite the company telling HSBC that extensions etc can be built but you just need to get prior permissions The purchasers don't even want to make any changes to the property so you'd think it's not a problem but HSBC are being unreasonable have delayed the sale by withdrawing the offer. I would advise prospective purchasers and sellers to avoid them. They also have taken 6 weeks to answer letters and are still waiting as our solicitor asked them to review their decision. Given the impending changes to stamp duty this is very upsetting
