Very disappointing customer service and poor sales ethics

I recently placed my first order with Waitrose and I had a discount code to use. Placed the order, £65, reduced to £45 with my voucher. A good solid offer for a new customer. Today I received an email saying they were cancelling the voucher and my order would now cost £65. I don't know how on earth they can do this as I only authorised £45 to be taken from my payment method, it's not up to Waitrose to decide to charge more that I have given authority for. I've lodged a complaint with them and if the response is unsatisfactory then I'll approach Trading Standards as something very fishy is going on here, a lot of people seem to have had the same experience. The discount code I used was legitimate, accepted by their website and it's only now, weeks later, that they have decided to do this.

Hi Barry, the code was only for the use of selected customers who had a specific issue with their online order. Therefore we are unable to honour the discount on any orders which have wrongly used the code. We're very sorry for the inconvenience caused – Mark
