The app and interface is lovely... BUT
The app and interface is lovely... and very intuitive... and the whole signing up process was easy to do... However sadly Starling Bank is really not suited for businesses of our size (12+ employees).
First hurdle for us was, the Bank does not permit 3rd party access... so our accounts lady who does the payroll and pays all suppliers, could not access the app to make payments or pay salaries. Only Directors registered on Companies House can have access to the app.
Secondly, any funds paid by clients, in error to our old account - were automatically forwarded to the new Starling Bank.. this in principle is great - however once received, there is no information as to who it came from... so you cannot track which client is paying in to your old account in error.
Thirdly, there is a limit on the amount that you can pay out each day. The limit cannot be increased permanently, so in order to allow payments to go through, you have to call and specifically request permission each day you know you are going to exceed payments totalling £25k. This meant that salaries didnt get paid on time at Christmas (as we didnt know there was a cap.. and it was only when several staff realised they hadn't been paid we called the bank to find out what the issue was), nor could we pay our VAT or other suppliers without having to call the bank each time and request permission each time we wanted more.
All very frustrating, but the bank is perfect for smaller companies and personal banking...
We have had to now switch banks again to The Co-Operative Bank. Which is working out for us much better.
