Review of Slick Revolution

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Covid saved you from 1 star

I finally took the time to write this review as I thought it could be useful for other people looking for an E-skate produced in the UK.
As many clients in the esk8 community, I wanted to order a board from a local brand and looked at Slick Revolution, being one of the only, if not the only, seller in the UK, and their boards looking good and having some good reviews on some YouTube videos, I thought it would be a good choice.
I ordered on black friday for 979£ a board that was supposed to be delivered 1-2 business days later.
5/6 days later, still no board and no communication from SR.
I sent an email through their website asking for an update and the response was pretty short - "We’ve cancelled your order for now. We are currently moving warehouses and so once we move on to a new system we should be ok to accept orders. Apologies for the delays".
Although I now had an explanation, I was still 979£ off and asked what it meant for my money... refund? should I place another order later? Is the order gonna still be processed at some point? When? I even said in my email that I wanted to be patient and understood that the current pandemic was probably difficult for businesses like theirs but since it was supposed to be a Christmas gift, I needed to have more details about my money and order to be able to use it towards a plan B if they could not deliver.
After sending another 2/3 emails (and tones of failed phone call attempts), I finally got a response saying - "The order was cancelled so you should be refunded very shortly. Unfortunately we wouldnt be able to fulfill this order for Christmas".
So far, even though the emails were not really professional and not up to the standard I was expecting when purchasing such an expensive item, I had had responses to my questions (sort of). However, from this point, the money was never refunded to my account, putting me in a tricky situation for Christmas, no more responses to my regular emails, their phone number is completely useless, no one ever picks up...
I had to dispute this charge to my credit card provider to get my money back. Even them did not hear from SR in the 6 weeks process. If it wasn't for the credit card company, I would have probably lost my money.

The reason I am putting 2 stars and not 1 is only because during this pandemic period I want to give the benefit of the doubt to this company who probably suffered from this crisis and as far as I know, Robert Simpson, the CEO and person responding to my emails, potentially had a rough time in 2020.

That being said, having your own business means having responsibilities. The first mistake from SR is to still allow customers buying from their website when they cannot deliver and provide their products.
The second, was the poor communication and the lack of professionalism.
The third, was the struggle I had to get my money back for an order that was cancelled by SR.

As I am a rather positive person, I want this review to be constructive for everyone and if Robert is ever reading that, few good reads you should consider having in 2021:
- Oversubscribed (Daniel Priestley)
- Unscripted (MJ DeMarco)

From an entrepreneur to another one, this should hopefully help you understanding that customer service and relationship is 90% of the success of your company, if this is good, clients will be willing to forgive you for some of your technical/logistic/unexpected issues along the way. Community is everything and you are not making yourself a favor in order to grow your business.
I hope to see SR back on track in the future as I do believe this is a great initiative and we do need UK based companies for Esk8 lovers!
