I attended a Per Bristow event in Sydney yesterday hoping to improve my singing technique and left feeling disappointed. It was a long day that started off with quite a lot of fanfare: Lively music and flashing lights aimed to get people into the right frame of mind. After about 10 minutes of this people were quite euphoric. That is when Per almost bounced energetically onto the stage from the wings. It was certainly a rousing beginning that initially left me with the hope that I was going to leave the event singing with a great deal more freedom. However Per focused nearly the whole day on the psychology behind singing and indeed learning, relating anecdotes from his own life and family, anecdotes of great success and occasional failure, to illustrate his points. There was very little practical exploration of technique, half an hour or 45 minutes at the most. I had saved up for this event, which wasn't cheap. I truly felt I didn't get what I paid for.
