Great Service and simple!

I purchased a car from First4car and the whole process was simple. A quick phone call with Ben and all of my queries were answered and they delivered my car within a few days. It was really simple and Ben was really helpful. I would highly recommend the team at First4car.

Great Experience

I had a great experience purchasing my car from Ben at First4Car. We phoned beforehand as there were a few vehicles we were interested in. We were left to look at them on our own, with Ben on hand answer any questions. There was no pressure to make the purchase. Once I decided which car I wanted, it just took a few days for them to fully prepare the car so I could collect it. I’m very happy with my car and the overall experience of dealing with this company. I highly recommend First4Car.

Dangerous repair, refused car back

Purchased red renault captur, back up for sale for more than I paid. Bought Feb, took back for minor repairs. Then started to hear a knocking in the engine. Took it back, couldn't find anything, told them it was definitely making a noise. They changed the alternator belt apparently to keep me happy. They said they had a problem fitting the part, that Renault had supplied the wrong part, then told me it had had a recall, which it hadn't. They magically fitted the part. It kept on making a knocking sound, took it back after my brother in law listened to it and said it was the water pump. They then said they must have misdiagnosed the fault and it was that. They then repaired again. I took it in on Monday, Tuesday I heard a loud knocking in the engine, slowed down to 20 and it became louder, suddenly something flew out from under the car and hit the curb, large metal part they fitted, looks like it had been adjusted to fit. I retrieved it, called the garage, the owner answered, I told him I was leaving the car where it was and wanted a refund, he said he waz kind enough to answer the phone, I said I would deal with it the next day as I was stranded with a 2 hour wait for the AA I got a taxi back. I asked for help on FB as I needed to do an event for my hedgehog rescue, the reason I needed a larger car. @FIRST4CARS then helped with a banger, I was grateful. The next day I was still thinking about refusing the car back. The owner phoned me, they wanted to charge me £1500 for the privilege of the use of the car. I told him I wasn't happy about it, I was going to the ombudsman. He then said I was threatening him, no just telling him what I was doing. We agreed on £500 but then he said if I didn't bring the banger back by close of business the next day he would phone the police and report it as stolen. I went 7 weeks without a car and they have put it back up for sale for more than I paid, obviously making money from me and saying they had lost it. The finance company have now returned all of the money.

The vehicle in question was purchased in February and developed a noise after a few weeks. We carried out repairs in good faith and based on the information available at the time, initially replacing the alternator belt. When the issue persisted, we re-inspected the vehicle and diagnosed a faulty water pump, which was then replaced. It’s worth noting that it is not uncommon for initial diagnoses to miss underlying faults, particularly when symptoms overlap. This is why further investigation was undertaken and additional repairs carried out.
We’d like to confirm that all work was completed professionally and the vehicle was later inspected and given a clean bill of health by Renault during an official health check.
After the breakdown you described, you decided to reject the car. At that point, we acted swiftly and fairly, arranging for a refund via your finance company. The delay in receiving your funds was due to the finance company’s processing time, not ours — we issued the payment within 2 hours of receiving the required paperwork.
While we did not have a courtesy vehicle available, we loaned you a roadworthy vehicle we use for transporting parts after seeing your appeal for help on social media. This was not a retail car, but it was offered out of goodwill to support your hedgehog rescue event. However, once you made clear that you were rejecting the original car, we explained we would not be able to continue lending a loan vehicle, which is standard practice.
Regarding the £500 usage charge: over the course of four months, you drove the car extensively. Charging £0.45 per mile for usage during this time is a standard and reasonable practice within the industry.
As for the car being listed again for sale: vehicle pricing changes constantly based on the market, condition, mileage, and seasonal trends. The current price is in line with other similar vehicles on the market and not substantially more than what you paid.
We genuinely regret that this experience didn’t go as smoothly as it should have, but we believe we acted fairly, responsibly, and within industry standards throughout.

Having just purchased a car for my wife from them I have to say that we have found them to be nothing less than excellent in all respects.

When things go wrong...

Great place to buy a car unless something goes wrong. Their aftersales cannot be reached by telephone and when they do respond to emails they aren't the most helpful. The sales team couldn't do enough for you. The aftersales won't do anything for you. Even if they had the exact car I wanted I would not buy from them as their aftersales team are the worst I have ever encountered.

At this point, your First4car warranty had expired. However, as you had purchased a 1-year external warranty, our team advised you to follow the appropriate claims process with the Warranty provider.

While our aftersales team were unable to answer your call at the time, we did respond to your initial email within 24 hours and followed up your second email following your phonecall in under an hour. First car experience

From the start the staff were very approachable and welcoming Leah showed us around and any questions we had she was always there. The team was always on hand with messages back an fourth and overall a very enjoyable experience as it was my first time purchasing a car and definitely would comeback in the future a shout out to Luke also for getting everything sorted the day of purchasing the car
