I've been using this branch for the last ~7 years to collect my prescriptions. During this time I've consistently found the operation chaotic. Bags of medications cover counters and floor and despite a "ready-for-pickup" SMS the staff frequently struggled to find the mediation the same day.
The process of finding orders is frustratingly inefficient: the staff look up the order on the PC, then sort through papers, followed by drawers before asking others for help. At my most recent visit I waited 17 min before being told that they couldn't find the order, instructing me not to come back until I receive another SMS. When I reminded them about the SMS I already received, the staff replied that they are not responsible for what their central office sends out. Out-of-stock medications and partial fulfilment occur regularly enough to be disruptive.
On the positive, none of my ~70 prescriptions from this branch contained wrong meds, and on the two occasions when I received fewer tablets then prescribed the pharmacy acknowledged the mistake and corrected it. The dispensing staff seem professional but the front-of-house team appears undertrained and affected by high turnover — I don't remember ever having seen the same faces twice. The overall impression is of a branch struggling with basic organization and communication, which makes what should be a quick collection unnecessarily slow and frustrating.

I called into Cohens Chemist, Market Street, Hoyland, Barnsley to collect my prescription. The staff reminded me that my flu jab was due and I could have it there and then. The staff there are absolutely brilliant. So welcoming and supportive. Great experience again. Well done to the team.

went for my appointment for covid flu jab at Fairfield drive Garforth, and waited and waited, after half a hour i went to desk only to be informed they had no record of my appointment owing to their being 2 booking systems being used, after going back home and bringing photograph on my phone of booking appointment, i had to battle with them to obtain my vaccinations, like previous posts regarding cohens appointments, i will not be usiing them again as the assitant was both unhelpfull and petulant and treat customers as fools.
The entire staff at my local pharmacy in Rishton are in desperate need of some serious Customer Service Training. A visit there is far from a pleasure.

I turned up 5 minutes before my flu jab appointment at Cohens Levenshulme Barlow Road. I was kept waiting half an hour then the pharmacist gave priority to some random who turned up without an appointment. She knew I had an appointment and had been waiting but saw him first. What is the point of booking if you get better service just turning up?
The other thing is that the shop is full of people collecting their prescriptions, whereas normal people get theirs delivered. So when you eventually get to the counter, you say you've got an appointment, then they don't even take your name, they just tell you to take a seat. So you end up waiting in line on a first-come-first-served-basis, even though you have an appointment. It's infuriating.
It's an absolutely disgraceful service. I'm very disappointed. Avoid.
So, I got my jab at my local gp's flu clinic. There was no waiting, no fuss, no unnecessary questions. It was super-quick, efficient and friendly. Highly recommended!
refused a covid 19 jab , i explained i am immunosuppressed with copd answer cant give this is despite me meeting the eligibility criteria

Overall the ch most on Garforth Main Street is brilliant. The staff are lovely BUT Cohens practices have changed and the service is not great. You used to go to doctors get a prescription and go collect any meds. Now it seems to have change aged where a warehouse seems to do and you just collect from pharmacy: I went to doctors yesterday afternoon and it will be 49 hours till my script is sent to chemist from a warehouse. Who needs a 38 hour wait after struggling c to get a doctors appointment!
I don’t like this system as it’s not customer friendly at all, never mind the plastic that your company is using. ‘N’

Absolutely awful service as if they couldn't be bothered it didn't feel professional a chemist is supposed to be helpful. I only wanted a bottle of surgical spirit. I had to ask they where not sure if they had or not they did I asked why ? Did you run out or don't you stock it? I had a Curious tone smile on face, and the female pharmacist replied why back ... To which I reply because I want to buy some or no if I can get some at a later date . Awful over priced products anyway rather go to boots or superdrug for the expertise or points !

Again with prescriptions this chemist doesn't seem to have a clue.
My mom had ordered prescriptions online and went to collect them for my 95 year old dad only to be told they weren't there. The doctors had sent them through however.
It took the person in charge of the care home they are in for him to get his medications.
Cohen's, if the doctors have sent it through you have got it!
Get your act together please.
Don't stress out elderly people!

Absolutely appalling service. Took 2 prescriptions in to local chemist last Thursday, one item out of stock, went to collect today (Monday) at 10am, none of the prescriptions had been done, not just the out of stock item, told it would be after 3pm today so now have to go back this afternoon. Rang head office to be told some prescriptions are sent to Bolton to be made up and some are done in branch and she didn't know what our local branch did. Also there was no apology from the girl in branch and she looked so miserable. If I could have left zero star review I would have. Last time I will use Cohens pharmacy. Shame because when it was an independent pharmacy it was excellent.
Update: apparently my prescription has been sent to another pharmacy in the village and Cohens are not dispensing it, not sure why I wasn't told this this morning when I went to collect it. The pharmacy in question is in Littleborough.

I placed my order over a week in advance with Cohens online service. Then I was told nearly a week later that they couldn't process it after getting me to myther my GPs for them. The Cohens physical branches are ok, but I cannot recommend their online branch at all due to their poor service. Also most physical branches charge £5 for all repeat perscripions to be delivered yet these charge nearly £10 per item.
I did as they asked straight away by contacting my GP who promptly gave me an ID code, linkage code and GP digital code. Which I gave to Cohens online twice. Once in their app in the relevant boxes and once by direct message. Their app appears to be dysfunctional or buggy as the app devs would say. I chased it up with Cohens 3 times over the course of a week and luckily for me on the third time they said they couldn't process it so i've no idea why they replied the way they did as it forced me to extend my review so i've wasted more time.

Eves Green Cohen Pharmacy has an extremely rude pharmacist.
I have been prescribed 3 boxes of the same common medication. Once prescribed I waited 5 days to collect as recommended by the NHS app. When I arrived they didn't have my prescription but gave me one box which I assume was from someone else's prescribed boxes they had ordered in. I then was told to come again on Monday as they would have the rest of it in (being well over a week since prescribed). I went to collect on Monday and was told again they didn't have the prescription to give me. I was told they would message me when the prescription was in. On the Friday I got a message to say it was ready but when I went again they had taken one strip out of the box they owed me and told me id have to come back for the 4th time in a few weeks to collect 1 strip of tablets which should have never been removed from my prescribed box. It will be 4/5 weeks after being prescribed the tablets that I will receive my full prescription which I should have got on my first visit.
When I asked why haven't they ordered all my prescription in at once I was told 'it doesn't work like that' which I am very sure it does. I was told if I'm unhappy I should go to a different pharmacy which I definitely will be doing where I'm sure I will receive the proper treatment and it won't be a Cohen's!

I went to Cohen’s in Featherstone to get a prescription. While there I asked a staff member if I could order my own prescriptions in future rather than the chemist ordering them. She had a really bad attitude and literally growled at me ‘no we have to do it’ (I found out later this wasn’t even true) I was so shocked I left the chemist. I’ve been going there decades and never experienced anything like that or what happened later
I had to call in later to pick my prescription up and mentioned the earlier confrontation and described her to a different member of staff as I didn’t know her name. She came to the counter and what went on after that is too much to type ( I have arthritis in both hands and 5 different conditions in one arm/hand)
I called the chemist to complain and they were absolutely useless. I tried to call Head Office today and apparently I have to fill out an online form. As it’s way too much for me to type I decided to briefly outline the problem here. Hopefully I will be given a number where I can speak to someone about it
I gave 1 star because I couldn’t give a zero
Couple months ago I wrote a bad review regarding the Barnsley branch of Cohen's pharmacy but since that I have been there multiple occasions and it would appear the guy that was in my opinion the issue there seems to have left it has been a pleasent experience dealing with them. No issues,no complaints and all have been friendly and polite. Just shows one bad apple can ruin a business.

Incomplete, wrong, rude staff and repeat prescription going missing or not given right medications.
I wonder whether they'll try to rip off the NHS by pretending not to give the correct medications.
When caught out instead of staff to pay attention to doing their job properly, Staff are Very quick to accuse their customer. Blaming everybody else such as their warehouse, it is the fault of the GPS office and blame the patient for not checking their medications usually very tightly packed and sealed before it is but not even understand that their staff don't know what means have to responsibility from jobs. Missing and not giving the correct medications to your patiences not only it is dangerous. It is very unsafe.

Pharmacist failed to comply with the NHS 111 Minor Illness & Urgent Medicines Supply pathway.
1.8.25
My 18 yr old son was referred to Cohens pharmacy via nhs 111 for an urgent supply of medication. He arrived at the chemist to be advised the medication is not in stock therefore he would need to source it elsewhere. I called the chemist @ 16:26 to speak to the pharmacist and advised it was their responsibility to ensure medication is sought, further highlighting sections 10.7 to 10.8 of the above pathway including the pharmacist should contact an appropriate service, and must not ask the patient to call back nhs 111 themselves if they are unable to make the supply.
The female pharmacist stated she was an out of area locum and had 1 member of staff supporting her, therefore did not have time to signpost/allocate referral to a pharmacy that did have the stock. Reiterated again this is not the guidance; I also informed her my son was neurodivergent and would not be able to take ownership of calling around pharmacies. Subsequently I had to re-refer via nhs 111 again to another pharmacy that did have the supply.
I appreciate staff pressures I am health professional within the nhs myself however the lack of signposting/further support and putting the responsibility on the patient is very disappointing. Had I not worked in healthcare I wouldn’t have known what the process was, my son would have had to attend urgent care.
Refused my monthly medication because they need 7 days to process repeat prescriptions but if you take the prescription in, they’ll do it there and then for you.
‘Not my problem’ was the pharmacists response when I said the GP surgeries won’t do prescriptions over 7 days in advance.
The reason is they have to send the repeat prescriptions to head office for authorisation before they can make it up. Even when they have the medication in stock.
With the rate pharmacies are closing, you’d think they’d put repeat business first but no.
Why do they not trust pharmacists to dispense medication? Why such a long, drawn-out process?
I’ve had to go elsewhere so many times because they refuse medication then staff get huffy when I ask for the script to return to the spine so you can go elsewhere.
