Warning: Unethical Practices at Avalone Law Firm - A Nightmare Experience

I feel compelled to share my harrowing experience with Avalone Law Firm to alert others about the questionable and unethical practices I encountered. I hired Ms. Avalone in July 2022 for legal assistance in finalizing my divorce, obtaining child support, and securing full custody of my two children.

From the onset, the service provided by Avalone Law Firm was subpar. Despite entering into a financial agreement and making timely payments totaling $2,279 through Fresh Start Funding/Open Wallet, Mrs. Avalone failed to fulfill her responsibilities. Filing only one document in court, she then subsequently ceased all communication with me.

Efforts to reach Mrs. Avalone proved futile as she ignored emails, phone calls, and requests for a refund. It became evident that the law firm is engaged in fraudulent practices, taking monthly payments from clients without delivering the promised legal services. Even Fresh Start Funding has been unsuccessful in reaching Ms. Avalone to authorize a refund on my behalf.

This experience has left my divorce proceedings and family matters in limbo, causing significant emotional distress. I caution anyone considering Avalone Law Firm's services to think twice and explore more reputable options. My hope is that others can avoid the financial and emotional turmoil I have endured.

In summary, Avalone Law Firm is not to be trusted, and I strongly advise seeking legal services elsewhere.

Hire at your own Risk!

The negative reviews are true.
My son and I are victims of her misrepresentation, lack of law knowledge, lies, non communication, procrastination, broken promises, so much more. I could go on for weeks.
She should not be practicing law of any kind.

BEWARE!!!! ALL

The unfortunate thing is that when you read the reviews here you get exactly what I experienced. And I did not read the reviews ahead of time. I chose Anna based off of my need. Clearly she was creating her new practice or something because it started out with me only speaking to Anna, Months in after multiple unanswered emails I would get contacted by someone saying they were the new secretary etc and wanted me to sign something. Then I would leave multiple messages, multiple emails etc, and wait months again only to meet a new secretary, or assistant who could answer no questions and give no information.

Ultimately, She lied. She stated she filed things, invoiced that she prepared things, stated that she was going to do things that she didnt actually do. Once my divorce was able to be filed as a default, she gave up. It was default eligible in May of 2021, I pressed her since then via email and on phone about filing the default so we could get it over with. She promised to do it over and over and never did and finally I gave her a date. October 19th. And never heard from her again. And i sent over 20 emails... "what is happening with the default divorce? Has it been filed?" and received NOOOOO reply. Finally I sent an email threatening to file a grievance and within minutes I got a reply. This time, I asked her, if you have not filed this filing then I no longer need you to which she answered that it had been filed and that she no longer felt like we could have trust amongst each other and we ended our relationship. She then had some people from her office send me new invoices that had new charges on them that were not on past invoices etc. Like others I have read here she also has been holding my file hostage and worst she never sent the paperwork in to the court to take herself off of my case. So, she is also holding my case hostage. Nothing can be done as long as she is still listed as the Lawyer on the case. And the worst part is she NEVER FILED THE DEFAULT... There are multiple things being done to rectify this at this moment and all of them lead to her breaking ethical laws in doing this. I like many others was taken advantage of by this lawyer. My wife was NEVER served the child support papers and we had 3 child support court dates that we went to where Anna lied and stated that she was served but never had the proper paperwork for the court. No affidavit of service means it was never done. Its unfortunate that Ms. Avalone is doing this to people. Please beware of her because I dont write reviews but after what I have gone through and am still going through i felt like I needed to warn people.

Stay Away: Fraudulent Billing and Incompetence

Update: I filed for arbitration and I won. The arbitrator issued an award in my favor in the amount of $1,500. The award was binding on Avalone, but she failed to pay it. I had to go to court to get it confirmed so that I could start the enforcement procedure. Avalone showed up in court more than an hour late and finally handed me the check. The fact that she lost a case regarding her own fees and was late to court for the hearing only confirms her incompetence that I described in my original review below.

I hired Anna Avalone to represent me in a child custody case and paid her $2,000 retainer. She didn’t meet a single deadline. She unreasonably delayed the child support filing so I lost over a month of child support payments. She missed several calls with my witnesses that she scheduled. She missed calls with me. I had to call/email/follow up to get anything done.

After so-called “working” on my case for almost two months all she managed to do was to file a child support petition - a simple form anyone can fill out in 10 min (it took days for her and her assistants to fill it out and I still had to correct mistakes after them).

I asked her several times to return my retainer and let me go. She refused. Instead, she requested I pay her additional $4,622 so that she returns my file (it was her legal responsibility to return my documents, instead she chose to blackmail me).

She stoped responding to my emails and answering my calls completely after I pointed out that her invoice was fraudulent (e.g. she charged me 1.5 hours for a call that lasted 6 minutes, she charged me 5 hours for a form that I filled out myself in 10 minutes; and I can go on and on).

The lesson I learned with Avalone: once she gets your money, you're on your own. I filed for arbitration to get my money back and I've reported her to the Bar. I really hope the Bar will take an appropriate action soon so that she won't scam people going forward.
