I purchased a railcard

I purchased a railcard, received an email confirmation from secure.railcard.co.uk but never received the electronic railcard. Called the helpline and they had no record of my email or application but they took payment! I have had to reapply but used the paper application and Royal Mail!

Beware!

Customers are directed to this site when they search for how to apply for a railcard at nationalrail.co.uk. It is the official site of National Railcard who actually supply the discount cards (such as senior railcards) which you can use on national rail.

When you have supplied all you details, you are presented with a Large "Continue" button which it looks as though you have to press to complete the transaction. If you read the eye-catching blurb it says "Your order is complete £20.87 cash back! Click here to claim the above reward, credited onto your card, following this Railcard order." If, however, you read the tiny small print, it reveals that you would be signing up to pay them £20 pm if you were foolish enough to hit "Continue".

I think it may be possible to avoid this site by purchasing your card direct from thetrainline.co.uk using their app, but if you do purchase from National Railcard, do not be tricked into signing up for a continuous payment authority that will quietly drain your bank or credit card account.
