so my review would now be reaching 5 stars if everything had been great to start. Zainab at the Londonist has been wonderful. Sarah at Chapter has also been lovely. my son now has a great room in a great place.
BUT we had to WAIT 4 H TO CHECK IN. the RADIATOR FIXED ON HOTTEST setting on hottest day of the year. there was VOMIT IN THE SHOWER. once cleaned, we ran the SHOWER and it was FIXED ON SCALDING. these were fixed the following day, THANKS TO SARAH AT CHAPTER but it was an significantly uncomfortable night. despite the shower and radiator being fixed, because the temperature in the corridors was set to tropical, my son's ROOM WAS 9 DEGREES ABOVE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE, CONSTANTLY. he woke in the middle of the night when his thermometer was 31 degrees. the reaction of the team on sight and initial reaction of the Londonist was a shrug. But after 5 days, ZAINAB FIXED IT. I am truly grateful.
I was working for this company for 1yr and a half, all I can say it's been a horrible experience, you are micromanged at every corner, being in this organisation feels like your trapped in a prison. Many health and safety laws are broken on site, forcing employees to stand on the fire exit stairs for 12 hours striaght, breaking the health and safety regulation act 11, which states a chair should be provided at a workplace.
Moreover, there are no welfare areas no kitchen provided and no heaters provided. I have to be honest even dogs are treated better than this. Government need to regulate these security agencies. We had no uniform provided, there is no room for progression and your stuck on minimum wage for the rest of your working career, absolutely terrible.
In conclusion stay away from these guys and build up a skill and find better work elsewhere, where your not treated as a slave and whipped, or are afraid of losing your job all the time.
Fantastic staff and easily accessible rooms
the unsafest student accommodation I have ever seen. I had several bad experiences in chapter even though I don’t live there my friend does, i’ve been inside multiple times. I witnessed a homeless lady sleeping on the stairs. Another concern is that the night security does not do their job, my friend and I were chased literally right outside of the gate and harassed. Which is surprising that the security did not hear anything or come outside to check what the screams weee about despite the fact they are right next to the gate. No one was inside to help us even though they claim 24/7 security. This is really disturbing as students live here alone. All of their advertisements of a safe accommodation are false. On top of that you are paying way more for what you get in there. Extremely overpriced.
Literally the worst and most unsafe student accommodation ever. I have had my room broken into by staff at 11:45 pm and had called the police who had even told me something about this accommodation seems so shady as they were not corproating with the police. There have been homeless people sleeping on the stairs to people found with knives inside the courtyard as the front gate didnt work for months and anyone could enter and chapter literally has the worst security. I have even had the security team and the chapter staff steal multiple things from my under garments clothes cash and even medical stuff from my fridge. I have also heard extremely creepy stuff about the head of security telling one of my friends friends that she should be going to the gym to "Maintain her body" and other extremely inappropriate comments. The day security seems okay but the night security is the worst they all have access to everyones rooms and after I complained to the police and exposed them the reception staff also started getting extremely rude with me and the manager is either so extremely dumb and unaware of whats going on in the building or in on the whole stealing thing they have going. I have even been chased outside at 4am and the security wasn't downstairs at the reception or to be found until he came up to the roof to smoke and realised my friends were smoking and he started a whole fight with us students and claimed he was a "fire marshal" not security which i highly doubt, after that incident i noticed missing stuff from my room and as a girl I was an easy target to them. The price I paid for the studio is the same as a 1 bedroom apartment but my family had put me in chapter as they thought it was safe but it was the opposite. Even after my mother contacting the manager as after my room was broken into I felt extremely unsafe the manager did not care and was least corporative and kept gaslighting her and was rude.
I stay kings cross, everywhere MARIJUANA (canabis) unfortunately, I talked with crew but not change anything.
I was so looking forward to staying at Chapter (Islington) but their cancellation policy is impossible to work with. It's a catch-22 for first time students and you must scrutinise their terms very carefully.
As of the time of this review, Chapter have a cancellation and refund policy that does not allow the student to cancel and obtain a refund if they "remain a student". They require payment of the first installment of the lease by the 31st July, despite examination results coming out on the 17th August. This means that you will have to commit to a long and (very) expensive lease without knowing WHERE you will actually be studying. You can get a refund if you do not go to university at all, but this does not help the huge number of students who do get the option in their 2nd choice or in clearing.
So, if I apply as my first choice to study at a London-based university but I do not obtain the grades, I will have to enter clearing and I may need to study elsewhere, maybe even well away from London in another part of the country. If I do then get accepted elsewhere I do not get a refund from Chapter as I am "still a student", so I might have to commute from London to a university many hours away on a daily basis - impossible because of the time and expense. Chapter say this is because "I choose" to go elsewhere, but I am not! I am not choosing to go elsewhere; it's just how the system works as to where you get accepted based upon grades that I cannot know in advance. Surely they must know this? Choosing and wanting are not the same.
Many private student accomodation will give a "cancellation based on first chosen university" and not a "cancellation based on any university" principle. Chapter do the latter. They essentially trap you with the "still a student anywhere" rule. Make sure you check this out since you could enter in to a lease for the full amount. I wondered why Chapter kept sending emails asking me to pay early. That would of course enter you in to the full contract as well, so again beware.
I struggled to get accomodation because of my age, a recently diagnosed disability and because I am moving overseas to study. None of that mattered whatsoever to Chapter management, who clearly did not have my personal issues in mind. It's just a business decision and not a decision to genuinely help a student. "Let your story begin" say Chapter. Well, my story began with them rejecting my reasonable request for help. Luckily I found alternative accomodation with a proper first university choice cancellation policy. How hard can that be for Chapter to emulate? Very disappointed.
