I’ve used Monzo for a long time now and it’s always been a great product. In fact, as a disclaimer for this review I liked it so much I invested in their crowdfunding rounds. Despite that it took me a while to ditch my old bank and go ‘full Monzo’ as there were some occasions where cards wouldn’t be accepted etc.
Lately, however, it really feels like it’s starting to deliver on the early vision of a digital home for your money. As well improving on existing features, the integrations that allow you to pull other accounts (inc. mortgage which is super helpful) are so easy to set up and give me a complete view of where I’m at financially. The preferential rates on saving and investment fees alone justify the monthly fee for a paid account which I originally took out for perks like travel/phone insurance (now updated to include breakdown cover, credit scores and more). The only finances I have now that are completely separate to Monzo are crypto (probably for the best) and pension. The latter is due to be available shortly so I may be fully locked into their ecosystem in the not too distant future. Usually I wouldn’t like this idea but it’s so convenient, and so well executed it makes everything else in the same space look like a couple of generations behind. At this point it would be painful to have to use anything else.

Pensions are complex, but they don’t need to be. Penfold made consolidating my old pensions into one place so easy. Now I have everything on one place, I can track contributions and performance in the app. A feature that has been surprisingly useful is the forecast calculator which allows you to see how changing what (and when) you pay in might effect the value of your pension.
