Review of Penguin Random house

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Text smaller than newspaper font

Unreadable typeface in ‘Selected Works of Cicero’, just so disappointed as I really wanted to read this book. Its text is much smaller than newspaper font and many sections appear to be printed in distorted illegible italic. To illustrate my point, the original penguin edition from fifty years ago was 110 pages longer due to its normal-sized typeface compared to this recent printed edition. Furthermore, the ink seems fainter on some pages compared to others with text missing due to printer-skipping and inadequate ink. For the avoidance of doubt, all the other penguin copies in-store at Waterstones and elsewhere suffer from these printing defects. Like another user said, such cost cutting methods are compromising the reader experience.

JD Sports - Brand Partner Returns

The Yodel postage returns label was rejected at parcel shop, had to contact JD customer service via telephone and they created a UPS returns label, as the email customer service were unresponsive. Please note the JD sports order cannot be returned in-store, because certain items are being fulfilled by brand partners, this includes Vans skate shoes. With that said, I received my refund.

Bring back the Dark Sourdough

Why have you discontinued your most popular loaf of bread, the one that's always sold out namely the Dark Sourdough? Only for it to be replaced by the Brown Slab that tastes nothing like its predecessor, have no choice but to seek alternative sourdough elsewhere.

Review of Monoprix

Monoprix - South of France - Arles

The female cashier wrongfully forced a bag search without any probable cause, henceforth I insisted the cashier best check the CCTV to verify her error, but she instead picked up her receiver and dialled for security on my family. Moments later, the security guard arrived with an ipad that contained a live CCTV feed, therefore he would have been fully aware there was no issue, yet he still insisted on the cashier’s unjustified search of my personal belongings. Take note, only the authorities can enforce a bag search, and store policy or contract upon entry into supermarket are insufficient grounds. Prior to this, the female cashier was ushering the local customers to jump ahead of us in the queue, and when I flagged this up, she then demanded a bag check in response, that constitutes as a misuse of one’s professional position, furthermore her attitude towards my British family was just appalling.

Review of RSPCA (England and Wales)

Formal Complaint to CEO

The RSPCA’s priorities seem to be in the wrong place.

In your recent public statement on 11 June, the RSPCA seemed more concerned about defending a portrait painting of an individual who has previously taken part in Fox hunts. When your statement should have instead been more focused on the concerns raised by activists regarding alleged incidents of animal cruelty at "RSPCA Assured Farms".

According to MyLondon News, the activists report details an alleged 280 legal breaches and 94 breaches of DEFRA regulations at “RSPCA Assured Farms”.

I would be grateful if you can forward my trustpilot review to RSPCA Executive team.

Reply from RSPCA (England and Wales)

Thank you for your feedback. RSPCA Assured takes any concerns about welfare on RSPCA Assured farms seriously and always takes swift action to investigate. However, if there is any suggestion of systemic issues, we will carry out a review to ensure the integrity of the scheme.

RSPCA higher welfare standards have been independently proven to make lives better for millions of animals every year - an independent review of RSPCA Assured in 2021 found it was making a ‘positive and significant impact on improving the lives of 136 million animals a year in the UK’.

Every member of the RSPCA Assured scheme, which is non-profit and the UK’s only animal-welfare focussed assurance scheme, receives an annual assessment by highly-trained specialist assessors and may be subject to additional spot checks. Last year 89% of the 3,842 farms assessed were successfully meeting all of the RSPCA welfare standards or had less than five standards breaches, which can be something as small as incorrect paperwork or a broken fence. The majority of these breaches were resolved within 28 days of being raised. Twenty-three RSPCA Assured members had breaches significant enough to warrant suspension or withdrawal from the scheme, which accounts for less than 1% of the members of the scheme.

I hope that explains a little more about RSPCA Assured and how the scheme ensures high animal welfare.

Kind regards

Rachel

Reliable service in-store/online

First online purchase thus far, the item/order was delivered to the Victoria London store within 48 hours, so I collected it the following day and tested the shoes in-store, but decided the shoes were a bit spongy on my left foot, perhaps it was a manufacturing defect with these ON Cloudrunner 2 shoes, therefore I returned this item whilst there and received a refund immediately to my Paypal without quibble. The only disappointing thing was the cashier/sales assistant at the London Victoria store failed to recognise that another customer had pushed in-front of me in the queue and I had to wait an extra 10 minutes to be seen as both cashiers were having fairly long conversations with each customer, henceforth I have subtracted one star in this respect.

Farewell Sunday Times

Keep getting censored by trustpilot when posting a constructive review about sunday times, anyhow I feel the newspaper has become somewhat disconnected from the injustices in the world or the reality of suffering for certain creatures like Foxes given your magazine article on that subject, it didn’t seem that conscientious or ethically concerned for the matter. Furthermore I don’t wish to read articles on posh privileged folk and their next vanity project, just seems like a newspaper for etonians, no thanks, annual subscription cancelled.

Review of Picturehouse Cinemas

Dimmed luminosity and technical issue

Dimmed luminosity and technical issue with projector on Screen 2 at Ritzy picturehouse cinema in Brixton, almost like watching something at minimum brightness level on your Apple Mac, just really disappointing as it spoiled the viewing experience and ‘The Zone of Interest’ (2024) isn’t something you can just rewatch given the heavy subject of this film. Picturehouse refunded my booking, the agent stated the Ritzy has now fixed the projector fault, however thats beside the point, the cinema should have at least provided a voucher as a token of apology in this respect.

Review of Levi's

Honest Feedback

The order arrived quickly albeit DPD tracking record was technically false, as the courier claimed it was delivered and received by me, when by fact he actually left the parcel on my driveway without my knowledge, on this basis I do not trust Levis’ method of delivery.

Because I have concerns about DPD logistics, I did not feel confident returning such a high value order with the Levis DPD return postage label, had it been Royal Mail, then I would have done so.

Ended up visiting the Levis retail store to return my order, which seemed like the safest method of return from my previous experience, staff were pleasant and actioned the paypal refund which came through almost instantly.

With regards to the shape of mens jeans, even as a slim guy, the Straight-Fit seem too tight in the thighs and bit too flared in the lower legs for me, perhaps Levis might consider doing a straight taper style with more room in the thighs like other brands and preferably with zip-fly.

Review of RetailADR

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

ASOS blocked my account forever.

The Retail ADR service gets provided by CDRL, I filed a complaint about ASOS because they permanently blocked my account for allegedly making too many returns.

However throughout my customer lifetime I kept 33% of items from my orders, which I consider to be a perfectly reasonable purchase/return ratio for online distant shopping whereby items cannot be inspected first-hand prior to purchase.

To my dismay, the adjudicator rejected my claim, upon reading the final determination, it seemed like the adjudicator was solely focused on reciting support for the respondent’s position whilst ignoring the merits of my case. The flaws in the respondent’s comments went unquestioned and the compelling evidence of my claim was neither tested let alone acknowledged.

Also to make matters worse, the adjudicator refused to suggest any remedies, which left my dispute unresolved and feeling very one-sided. The result was of course unsurprising having seen the online reviews before making my complaint.

Review of Next

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Menswear disappointing quality

The design and material quality on Next menswear jeans has been exceptionally disappointing in recent times, genuinely cannot stand all these stretchy waists and button flys, bring back the zip-fly and fixed waist, im a slim guy and don’t need stretchy material. I just want the classic standard quality jean construction that other brands provided back in the 90s, and I want more choice of light blue jeans, similar to that Levis colour “Ferry Building Blue”.

Furthermore, Mens A-Front underwear has totally changed in shape and quality, your design and manufacturing team have made the underwear shorter and into a hipster-like shape. The A-Front underwear no longer sits on the waist, but rather much lower on the groin, thereby making it both uncomfortable and unwearable, when I asked for a refund you only provided a voucher for half the value, the customer should not have to suffer on the part of Next’s design manufacturing issues.

Track-Noise on London Underground

TfL must warn its passengers to protect the hearing of Babies, Children, Pets and Service Dogs from the Track-Noise on the London Underground.

The screeching track-noise on journeys remains unbearably loud for passengers on the Victoria, Central and Northern Lines.

Its been worsening each year and TfL’s noise reduction initiatives have seemingly failed to address the problem in all this time.

NHS Audiologists have raised concerns on BBC News back in 2019, and citizens have filed formal complaints to no avail, recently my iphone recorded 103 decibels on the Victoria Line.

Ear-defenders cannot even block out the high-pitch screeching track noise from my experience, which evidently highlights the severity of the issue.

You can find my petition on the Change website by searching:

TfL should warn its passengers to protect hearing from Track-Noise on London Underground.

Review of LBC

LBC news video disappeared.

The recent LBC news video titled “Inside the evacuation of Gaza, Matt Frei reports from Jerusalem” appears to have been removed from LBC’s youtube channel soon after its release on 15-Oct-23.

In the interests of impartiality, this particular LBC news video should have remained in the public domain, otherwise it simply amounts to selective reporting.

With that said, the LBC foreign correspondent provided an insightful and impartial analysis of the political situation in this region, with many of the weekend papers having also reported on similar points in this respect.

The general public deserve to hear the insights from your journalists including the observed realities in such political systems along with the affected civilian populations.

News reporting should therefore be all-encompassing to ensure the international community remain completely informed about each aspect of the Israel-Palestine situation, henceforth your platform has a responsibility to be transparent in this regard.

Review of Sacla' UK

Gold standard of pesto

Love the Sacla pesto and range of products, particularly the green pesto above all. They seem to have pretty good longevity if kept in fridge, sometimes up to 5-7 days for me, but best check label to be sure. Nice balance in flavour, and low salt/sugar content. Online order service pretty good as well, have been long time customer so can definitely recommend them from my personal experience having bought their products regularly etc.

Review of wix.com

Poor SEO ranking on Google for key words.

I have revised my review after Wix have now resolved my billing issue, however the platform still has many other drawbacks.

Firstly, contrary to all the adverts, I find Wix has extremely poor SEO on Google and its been 12 months now without improvement, most platforms get their website ranked within 6-weeks.

When my client was on WordPress, he ranked top in Google for various key-word searches, sadly thats not the case with Wix. And my client no longer receives any regular enquiries like before, its probably lost him a lot of custom and he regrets leaving WordPress, and he wants to migrate back to the said platform understandably.

I asked an independent web-developer to examine the back-end of my website and they noticed Wix websites are missing much of the crucial code in the back-end for Google to effectively index and crawl your website. When seeing how slow images load on my Wix website, its no surprise Google probably ranks it lower as well. And for the avoidance of doubt we completed the Wix SEO checklist and set-up Google search console and analytics.

The technology stack on WordPress seems to be much more Google friendly being its an open-source CMS platform, however the downside being its not as straight-forward to use as Wix, however my client has no choice but to return to WordPress given Wix failed to rank his website in Google and he has virtually zero-traffic going to his website compared to his previous website on WordPress.

To put it simply, Wix is much easier for building websites because of its intuitive interface and its drag-n-drop style ***however*** the trade-off seems to be poor SEO, random formatting glitches and less-professional aesthetic compared to commercial websites. On a seperate note, Wix does seem to have good website security which is something.

Review of Waitrose

Surpasses all other supermarkets

Waitrose actually reward its customers loyalty with decent value vouchers. And they actually respond by email and help the customers issue. Unlike Sainsburys which have zero email to contact, and whose Nectar card offers barely anything in return for the sheer amount of money its customers like myself spend. Furthermore, I have noticed the staff are more polite at Waitrose compared to most supermarkets, they are miles ahead in courtesy and customer care.

The definition of customer care

Impressive customer service, they sorted the issue out promptly, many online retailers could learn something from Harrys approach to customer care. I have been using the Stone shower gel, which has refreshing fragrance reminiscent of aventus creed. Keep up the great service. Cheers
