Review of Coddy

Lacking content and anti-consumer practices

Coddy isn't a bad service. It's just hard to justify paying for it when you can get 100% of what they offer elsewhere for free.

Everything on the site is free but with limitations and ad supported. If you want you can subscribe to them for the pro tier which gives you unlimited access, zero ads, and access to their AI for help. The courses are structured similar to how duolingo does things which is nice. Everything is bite sized and done in the browser. No need to set up an environment to learn which is nice.

The problem with Coddy is that the content is pretty barren. There's not much to choose from and what is there is pretty surface level. All of the advanced stuff is "Coming Soon". Nothing you can't find for free elsewhere if you are willing to put in a little extra effort. The Pro tier really doesn't seem worth it at all. The AI isn't really that useful as the free tiers of chatgpt and grok can do the same thing. The unlimited access is nice if you want to really go all in but you are then limited by the lack of content. At $15 a month it's pretty expensive if you ask me. Sure it's the cheapest of the code education sites but there is a reason for that.

I demoed the pro tier for about a week before deciding to cancel and look elsewhere. The worst thing is that have that anti-consumer practice of removing your pro features immediately if you cancel. They want you to wait until the last day of the billing period to maximize value. They do this in hopes you forget to cancel so they can charge your for another month. Because I canceled early, I only got a week of pro for the price of a whole month. No refunds. If you do sign up, I strongly advise using a single use card or something like privacy to avoid this anti-consumer trap.

Review of Book Outlet Online

Doesn't ship and then lies about it

Ordered a book from them Thursday last week. I was sent a usps tracking number pretty soon after. After no movement on the tracking I inquired about it Wednesday afternoon this week. That is 4 business days not counting the weekend. Plenty of time to see some movement one would think. They responded that it can take up to 3 business days and possibly more if the order was placed close to the weekend (again on day 4 with no updates). Fair enough. I decided to wait a couple of days in hopes to see something. Not 5 minutes after my interaction there was an update to usps. But usps updated what their shipping partner (which is in house btw) stated. It is now Friday and nothing has changed since then. Usps still does not have the package which tells me that it has not shipped. I have worked shipping before so I know how the process works. I also know that it does not take a week to leave the warehouse. I needed the book by this Sunday and given that nothing has shown up today means a refund for me. I email them today asking them to refund me. I tell them that lying to customers about shipping is bad customer service and I would rather not do business with such company. They refuse to refund me and claim that it is with their shipping partner and is on the way. They sent me the internal tracking from their shipping partner as evidence of this. It shows that the package has been circling the east coast for the past week. It shows a scan in my home city in VA on the day of my original email. It then shows a scan on the 13th with it in PA then with in only a couple of hours back in VA where it has sat for the past day and half. Usps still shows that it has not received the package and that it is in PA. Their evidence just makes them look even worse. I don't know what to believe. If my book doesn't show up soon I guess a chargeback will be in order.

Edit: Book showed up so I'm updating the score. Still low as I feel customer service could be better. They should also fix their shipping process to be more transparent to the customer.

NFL Shop scams and isn't afraid to lie to you.

I ordered a beanie on the first of December. According to their site it was supposed to arrive by Dec 14. They sent me tracking numbers on Dec 2 but all that has happen was that they just printed the label. They haven't actually shipped anything. The tracking hasn't moved since. It is still waiting for item. I tried to contact their customer service a few times on the 9th and 10th. I got one rep for the entire experience. I asked where my package was and he offered a refund. To date I have got neither refund nor beanie. Worse is the beanie that I wanted is now sold out. It was supposed to be a gift. If they aren't going to ship the beanie then they could at least refund me. It has been over a week since they promised a refund and still nothing. I have tried to contact support the past few days and I get nothing. They have no support team. Never buy from NFLShop.

Edit:
Contacted them using the customerfirst email. They claimed that I was refunded on the 10th and to check with my bank. I checked with my bank every day this week and they tell me no refund has come through. I sent another email to the customerfirst email 2 days ago telling them nothing has come through and I have yet to get a response from them. I'm guessing at this point a chargeback is in order and a complaint to the FTC.

10 year customer being bullied to pay erroneous bill.

I’ve used bytesized for about a decade and have always had great service from them which is why it pains me to write this review.

I’ve had a seed box with them for years. At the start of the month I get an email saying that my account has been suspended and to remove the suspension that I would have to make a payment. I’ve always been current with them so it was quite a surprise. Even more of a surprise that I got zero heads up or notification from them.

I went ahead and checked the account because maybe the last payment didn’t go through. I understand things happen. When I logged in I was baffled. The account balance was showing that I owed what would be the equivalent of 6 months of the service. A pretty hefty fee. I checked PayPal and all of my previous payments went through and cleared. My latest payment was the only one that didn’t go through and it shows that it was canceled by them. I contacted support and they claim that all my payments didn’t go through when I have evidence from PayPal that shows otherwise. They won’t budge and I’m not about to give into bully tactics and pay them.

I don’t want to give them 1 star because outside of this incident I’ve never had any issue. I’m honestly still shocked that they are willing to loose such a long time customer over this. I see my business isn’t wanted so I’ll pack up and move on.

Edit:
They claim that five months weren’t paid. I went through and triple checked every PayPal transaction with ByteSized and my bank account. Everything had been pulled out of my account and cleared on my end. Their claim of missing payments is false. They also never emailed me like the reply claim.

Interestingly enough they did open a ticket for me after I posted this review. The ticket wanted me to compromise and only pay for one month. This is still them getting me to pay them for an extra month. By the time the ticket had been created I had already moved on to another provider. I ignored it. I don’t reward dishonesty with extra money. Even worse is that I was invoiced for this month despite my account being shut down.

I don’t know what happed but they have changed. Stay far away from ByteSized.

Edit part 2: I was going to just let things go because I'm not a fan of stirring up drama. I was going to make an edit when their last edit lied about the "multiple contact" attempts. I didn't as it serves no real purpose other than just he said she said. I'm trying to be the bigger person and just move on from this rather than being immature trying to have the last word. There have been some new developments that have forced me to make an amendment to this adventure. After the account was suspended due to their false claim that I owe the money I decided to just let the account stay closed. I wasn't about to pay them twice for the same service. Today I get an email from them for an invoice for the past two months where I did NOT have any service. At this point they are just charging me for the sake of charging me. Apparently my box was still active even though I couldn't do anything with it due to being suspended. I was able to login and delete the box. Deleting the box did delete the two invoices. It's a little annoying as they are okay with billing for zero services rendered.

Current checklist of what Bytesized did wrong:
Tried to charge me a second time for 6 months a service.
Lied about payments that were made.
Lied about communication.
Tried to charge me for 2 months of service I didn't get.

I'm sure they will update their edit to add more lies. I'm leaving the review here. Believe what you want. This is what happened to me and you have been warned.

Hey there,

I'm sorry to hear your experience with us has been less than stellar lately. We appreciate your loyalty over the years and are keen to work this out.

I've checked your history and it seems that you are currently missing five months of payments. The Paypal transactions were created but never actually paid by your bank. We've send you an email about this a few weeks ago but haven't received a answer yet, could you please check your spam filters?

It's not a big deal, the account is still there just waiting for us to enable it again so please just reach out over email or create a ticket so we can work this out.

Edit:
Hi, thanks for editing your review and showing us there is a way to communicate with you. We've tried reaching out multiple times and even tried using our own Ticketing system to get a response from you. You never responded back to us and sadly this seems the only way to settle this disagreement. Here's a screenshot of what Paypal is showing us. https://imgur.com/a/mp0e3Ek

We still want to solve things with you as we loved having you as a customer over the last years, so please reach out to us using our ticketing system which you've seen the existence of.

Here's Paypal's description of a canceled payment:

What does payment Cancelled mean?
This means that a payment has been successfully cancelled before it has left your account. In the case of a payment list, this means all payments within the list have been successfully cancelled before leaving your account.

Review of Grover

Grover is a scam

The initial site navigation for initial purchase is easy. Find the item, select your term, give them a little info for a soft credit check, provide payment details, and you are on your way. Unfortunately this is where the good stops.

Plastered all over the site, in help documents, and importantly at checkout, is how they ship via UPS and that they require an adult signature. This is very important. Especially when dealing with expensive packages. Why am I making a big deal about this? Because the tracking for my package was updated to delivered with the proof as “Left at front door” with no signature ever being gathered. One can imagine how I felt coming home with no package at my door.

Now with a normal business such as Amazon and the like you can just contact customer service and let them know and get a refund. In fact I’ve had Amazon next day me replacements no questions asked. With Grover you have to play this game of maybe getting help from support. You are forced to talk to their bot and go in circles with it until it finally tells you that it is getting a support rep to email you. 24 hours later I get an email. Rather than them kicking off an investigation or even better giving me a refund. They ask me to contact UPS. I did and they told me what all package carriers say. Contact the shipper(Grover). Another thing I want to point out is that the package is the responsibility of the shipper during transit. This is true for UPS, FedEx, and USPS. This is why insurance claims are always paid out to the shipper. With that I replied to the support email and told them just that and also asked for a timeframe for when I can expect a refund or a possible replacement. I also ask why the package wasn’t shipped with an adult signature required when that was what was agreed upon when my order was placed.

24 more hours and my response the the email I get reply (2 full days since initial contact for those keeping track). The rep told me that the information on the site about requiring a signature is out of date. This is just a bold faced lie as their help article still says a signature is required and was updated only a day prior to my order. I really don’t think that matters as my order showed adult signature required when I placed it. The thing that is stopping them from refunding me is the thing that is 100% their mistake and I’m really thinking it’s intentional.

It has been about a week of back and forth with them. All taking a full day for them to respond. They keep lying about how they no longer do signatures. I finally asked them to escalate. After that they have went silent. Thankfully I used PayPal so I can cancel the subscription through them. I also started the chargeback process as it is clear that Grover isn’t going to help me.

Edit:
I feel like an update is necessary just to drive home how awful this company is. I filed a dispute with PayPal and won by default. Grover never responded to them and have yet to respond to me since before this review.

I got my refund thanks to consumer protections and thought all was good. Then I get an email from Grover saying that billing failed and that I owe them for the month. The email said that I can reply to it and get a hold of support. I did just that. I explained how the package never arrived and how I have already gotten a refund from PayPal. It has been a few days and I have gotten no response.

Grover trying to charge me and harass me for money after a chargeback is a violation fcba so I have also reported them to the ftc.
