Charged 75 euro on a security deposit

Had a nice stay at villa Celine in Maillane, France, but due to a glitch in my banking app making it difficult to send a bank transfer direct to the owner for a 500 euro security/damages deposit, the owner sent me a Vrbo payment to use instead. I thought nothing of it and made the payment.

After the stay the owner refunded the deposit less 75 euro in Vrbo fees.

It turned out that Vrbo see all payments via their links as a payment on the rental and automatically apply fees, all security deposits should go direct for the host to avoid Vrbo fees but this wasn’t explained at the time by the host.

Host went from being friendly to completely unhelpful when I queried it. Spoke to two different Vrbo support agents who said they understood the issue and promised I’d get the rest of my deposit refunded, and not to worry as it had been escalated.

I asked, since it was Vrbo who took the fees why they couldn’t just refund those direct to me, they just repeated that they’d ensure the host would pay it back to me. I assumed they’d refund the host, to allow them to pay it back.

After a week I received an email to say there’s nothing they can do and need to speak to the host. Which they knew I had done already. Complete waste of time.

Vrbo knowing the issue should refund the fees they took, but equally the host shouldn’t have shared the link to pay the deposit that way without advising me it would cost 75 euro, and shouldn’t be passing on their fees to me. why the charge was also 15% is also odd, as looking online their fees for owners are usually much lower.

Very disappointing experience, won’t be using or recommending Vrbo or the host again. Annoyingly I left a good review for the host immediately after the stay, which I can’t now update.

Beware, scammers

Reading the previous comments on here, as well as their responses, I can see I've fallen for this companies scam in the same way as several others. Was in a rush to make a flight and tried to buy a fast track ticket to avoid missing the flight. It was completely unclear that I was at the same time subscribing to anything.

In the end I couldnt even use the fast track pass at short notice due to their website.

I received several further emails about the fast track, nothing regarding a subscription.

I attempted to appeal to them once their $79 euro charge came out of my bank and they pointed out the website small print.

This company are immoral in the way they conduct their business. Avoid.

something strange going on with the spare keys.

Overall, fairly happy with my purchase but i am very wary about they are doing with the spare keys of all their cars! The cari bought is in good condition, although not quite as advertised. It had several scratches and a large tear in the upholstery on one of the doors which were not highlighted on the listing and clearly should have been by their own criteria. Also, you receive a message to say that car is being professionally valeted but arrived very dirty inside and out and also with lots of dog hair on the roof, when I had been told it hadn't been a smoker or dog owners car. Be sure to check how many keys come with the car under the "assured checks" section. I didn't notice mine only had one, these are expensive to replace. On checking some other listings I was surprised at how few cars had two keys, what happens to them? UPDATE - i part exchanged my car with them and gave them two keys with my part ex. they then listed that car to sell on with only 1 key. When i asked they told me they sell each car with however many keys are returned but thats simply not the case here. there seems to be only a small % of the cars that actually have 2 keys, i cant believe so many are lost. when you part ex a car you are almost always expected to supply both keys even if you have to replace one at your own cost. its worrying to think what they might be doing with these spare keys? Delivery was a pain. After purchasing on the Friday after some delays on their part arranging the finance, I was booked in for delivery on the Monday. On the Sunday this was confirmed before I got a call saying it wouldn't be possible, very short notice. Due to work commitments I rescheduled to the following Friday but they tried to deliver on the Wednesday when I wasn't home. inconvenient as I had to reinsure my old car to cover the weeks delay. They did reimburse me for that cost and they did offer to contribute towards a proper valet but not enough to make it worthwhile. All in all reasonably happy with the car. service is poor though and i have concerns about what they do with the spare keys.

poor returns service, zero communication

received the jacket i ordered ok, although delivery took 3-4 days longer than the website indicated it would. the item didnt fit so returned it via their Cycleon return service, 2 weeks later and we are still waiting for a refund.

according to the tracker it it is still in transit which makes the courier service incredibly slow, have messaged them 4 times to query why its taking so long without a single response.

very disappointing, don't think i'd order from them again.

Edit after below reply. I had an email last night saying the jacket had arrived on the 4th of November but there is a backlog in processing them. I then had a follow up to say the refund has been processed and should be received in 3-5 days. This morning I got the below to say they dont have the jacket yet...I wonder which one it is!

Discount on website not applied. Awful service.

Ordered a pair of crocs in June 2019 which were clearly shown with 25% off on their website but the discount wasn’t applied at checkout. Foolishly clicked through in the hope it would be applied in the end but it wasn’t. Also entered a 20% off code for signing up to their newsletter, that wasn’t applied either. After two emails and over a week I finally got a response saying the discount didn’t apply to the colour/style I bought. I then sent them a screenshot of their own website clearly showing the ones I bought at 25% off - they came back saying they couldn’t price match that offer! After failing to apply these discounts they’ve now offered me half off my next pair, yeah right! Absolutely awful customer service. my wife and two daughters have a bought loads of pairs of crocs over the years so this just very disappointing.
