Poor Unreliable Service for Guitar Mods/Repairs
I travelled 50 miles (round trip)(twice!) to take my Gibson 1957 Goldtop Les Paul Custom Shop to Fair Deal Music to have new pick-ups & new wiring harness fitted.
It was suggested the guitar may also benefit from a set up. The existing set up was fine, although I agreed to this. The work was completed at a cost of £140 but when I collected the guitar it now had string buzz from the nut that wasn't present before. There wasn't time to fix the problem so it was agreed to take the Les Paul home and return at a later date to rectify the issue.
When I got home I found a screw was missing from the original pick-ups and the old guitar harness hadn't been returned at all (Note: surely all guitarists are aware of importance and of retaining such parts and the resale value). I contacted the shop and was told they would give me the missing original parts when I returned for rectification of the nut.
When I returned the deeply cut nut was corrected with glue and I was given back the original harness but the original pick-up screw was missing and they promised to provide a replacement.
Since that time I've been very patient and politely emailed them at least half a dozen times over last 7 months and been given various differing excuses, before it being promised to post the screw to my home address. When the screw failed to arrive I chased this up again and was told to sort it out myself at a store called Charles Guitars Ltd and FDM would refund me £5, although given my experience it may have taken another 7 months to get it! I therefore complained on 09/03/2025 and requested my Complaint be submitted to P.Singh, as per FDM's Complaints Procedure.
Unfortunately no reply or apology has been forthcoming in the last 21 days (....and counting!).
The chap doing guitar modifications/repairs seemed a nice enough young man, but entrusting mod/repair of valuable guitars is a serious step, and a risk that should definitely be avoided at Fair Deal Music where reliability and customer service is so sadly lacking.
