Why did we not know about this treatment till now? I’ve had a recent holiday with my husband of many years and it was normal. We didn’t argue at all. We went out for meals and sometimes he had a beer or a glass of wine, even two and sometimes we had a coffee or ginger beer just like normal people do. He never looked glassy eyed, staggered or became argumentative or ordered another round before anyone else had touched theirs. I wasn’t boring or spoiling his holiday. No arguments about how many drinks he had or hadn’t had next day. He didn’t have to translate the menu watching for any hidden alcohol in sauces the way we did with the NHS treatment. Nobody here thinks he is weak or a waste of space or refused to see him unless he was sober. It was as if he wasn’t an alcoholic at all.
