I purchased a sofa for new flat which I was in the process of buying. 10 days after I purchased ( before delivery was agreed) the sale of flat fell through. I tried several times to speak to someone about cancelling or changing order as the sofa was no longer fit for purpose. It took several calls before a manager from the store phoned me and basically told me "tough but you can't cancel or change" and "if needs be we'll deliver it to storage but you're having it". The manager was totally unsympathetic to my situation and in the end I've had to accept delivery of a sofa that is not suitable for current accommodation. The really frustrating thing is hearing from an agent (when I called to change delivery address and arrange delivery) is that this is happening all of the time at the moment due to the current financial market and there's usually something that can be done to help. I was told by the manager there wasn't quite matter of factly. I'm now stuck with something I don't want which wouldn't bother me too much if it was cheap! To me, totally unsympathetic and more interested in ensuring the commission was made rather than good customer service. My tip to anyone reading this is if you can, go and view the sofa in a store but then order on line as they have to give you a 14 day colling off period when ordering on line. It appears that if you order from the store and then wish to change or cancel you don't have leg to stand on.
