I was really disappointed to be embarrassed in front of other customers at the point of accepting a very nice hot drink and cake as a Birthday Celebratory offer from Dobbies at their cafe in the Ashford branch. In exchange for the Dobbies card that I presented I was told in no uncertain terms the drink prepared by one member of staff was refused to me by another member of staff, put simply that I couldn’t have the drink I ordered - a hot chocolate - because I was not entitled to the large drink only the regular version - even my offer to pay the difference - 30p - if I remember correctly was declined!
I found the incident petty and ridiculous and asked where on the ‘birthday celebratory card’ it stated the restriction …….. it was nowhere to be found!
Rather than escalate the embarrassment further I accepted the regular drink and cake without further fuss or embarrassment and chose to keep my store purchases to an absolute minimum on this visit!
Not a good advert or marketing offer from Dobbies on this occasion - what is this World of ours coming to!
