Terrible experience

Initially, I made an online enquiry for a specific car model (420 Gran Coupe) for a test drive, which was clearly confirmed in writing. However, I was later contacted by a representative who attempted to redirect me towards a 440 Coupe, while suggesting that I had in fact requested it. This was misleading and frustrating, especially as I had clear proof of my initial request. I was then referred to another colleague for an in-person appointment, being said he won’t be available for the date booked.

When I arrived at the dealership, my first impression was positive. However, as discussions progressed with the sales representative (Serena Walker), the interaction quickly deteriorated. While I understand that it is normal for sales staff to ask questions about preferences and payment options, I found her manner to be increasingly intrusive, insistent, and disrespectful.

Despite clearly stating the payment method I preferred (full payment without finance options), she repeatedly challenged my choice – questioning me 3–4 times in an insistent manner, as though I was making the wrong decision. I fully appreciate that a salesperson has targets and incentives, but this level of pressure was unnecessary and uncomfortable.

The situation worsened when I explained that I was open to both new and approved used cars. She expressed irritation, saying that I should have clarified this earlier, although I had already done so during my initial enquiry. Rather than assisting me, she became visibly annoyed and dismissive.

At the end of the day, it is not my fault that I was not informed that BMW has different representatives for new and used cars. Nor did I ever state or imply that I was ready to purchase a car immediately – I clearly mentioned that I was interested in a test drive only for now. Considering this is a decision of approximately £40,000, it is not something I can decide on the spot. This was exactly the reason why I requested a test drive, just as I have done with other dealerships such as Audi and Volkswagen, so that I can make a fair comparison and reach a well-informed decision on which one to buy.
The most unacceptable part of the interaction occurred when she asked about my timeframe for purchase. I explained politely that I planned to make a decision within two months due to personal circumstances. Instead of respecting this, she began pressing me in a rude and condescending tone, demanding to know why I would wait two months and insisting multiple times, “Why not now? Why not today? Tell me the reason.” I reiterated several times that the reasons were personal, but she continued to push in a manner that was both unprofessional and humiliating.

The reality is that my partner is pregnant, and this is the main reason we explained that our situation is personal and that we need a short period before making a final decision. We were open and transparent about this, yet it did not seem to matter. At this point, both of us felt so uncomfortable and disrespected that we decided to end the meeting and leave.

I have never, in many years of dealing with reputable companies, felt so belittled and uncomfortable as I did in this encounter. Her behaviour was not only discourteous but also completely out of line with the standards one would expect from a premium brand such as BMW.

I want to stress that I do not believe this is an issue with BMW as a whole. Shortly after, I visited another BMW branch in a different city and received a completely professional, respectful, and supportive experience – a stark contrast to what I experienced at Coventry. This confirms to me that the issue lies specifically with the staff member involved.

First class customer support

My wifes’s BMW i3 lost some of the of the icons on the driver control panel. This is a superb vehicle bought new from Sytner and after three years no issues had arisen.
I called Sytner and Luke took my call to resolve this problem. After an hour, he said he would get back to me the next day with a solution. The following day, he called, the problem was resolved. Great service, support and patience to solve the problem. Above a beyond customer support. More so as I live in London and Luke and Sytner are in Coventry!!

This was my first time buying a car on…

This was my first time buying a car on my own, as my partner had always managed it before, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Mir was outstanding from start to finish, empathetic, patient with my lack of knowledge, and incredibly supportive throughout the process. He made what felt like a daunting step into something enjoyable and memorable. I’m so grateful for his guidance and would highly recommend him to anyone looking to buy a car with confidence and ease.

Helpful receptionist

Called to garage this morning re query about lights on my X1. Deep on Reception was polite, helpful and very reassuring about my concerns. He left the desk, sat in my car, sorted the problem and offered to solve a Satnav annoyance u had as well. Thanks, Deep….. appreciated !

Excellent Customer Service.

The team at Sytner Coventry are very helpful & customer focused, but not in a pushy way, nothing was too much trouble from test driving the car through to signing the paperwork & collection of my new vehicle.
