Not as good as I had hoped

I cannot complain about the online service itself as I had no issues with it. (i.e no issues with logging in and cancelling my subscription, which I had to remember to do before the last day of my subscription.

I bought a 3 month subscription to learn Swedish and I found the teaching methodology frustrating, unintuitive and very repetitive. I started with the basics and I found no explanation of what it was the lessons were about. Just the same repetition of images and pronunciations that quickly became very boring. If I didn't have a few lessons from a different source I would not have understood why the form of the words changed.

The speech recognition part I only give it 6.5/10 because sometimes I would get the words wrong and it would still mark it as correct. Or if you said it correctly it marked it as wrong. Tip: Say the words slowly.

The one thing I did like was the sections that had the reading and you could record yourself and it would highlight what you got wrong.

I wanted to try the app to see if I could learn enough Swedish to get by, but I'm not convinced it worked for me because it fails to explain and instill the basics of the language concepts.

The app doesn’t work with AirPods

The app doesn’t work with AirPods. I have to basically yell my answer to get it to recognize that I am speaking, which makes it almost impossible to say the word correctly. Tried to get a refund but they have a 30day policy I didn’t see and wouldn’t negotiate. I have tried doulingo and babbel since and they both work fine with AirPods.

Impossible to cancel subscription.....

when trying to cancel my subscription everything on the website works great, until you get to the page where you have to cancel. just keeps loading for every.

I thought this was a one time thing a bug they had to fix. so I tried again a few weeks later, but still this page didn't work. I've tried over 3 times now spread out over a month. having to call their support team also without succes. it's almost criminal to make a cancelation this difficult.

My month to month subscription became one for life!?....

A "lifetime" membership is not actually…

A "lifetime" membership is not actually a lifetime membership. Because the computer operating systems changed, they had to upgrade the program. This happens. But at that point, lifetime memberships were cancelled and if you want to continue, you have to pay again! This is despicable behaviour and must be a violation of trading standards in some countries. Shame on you Rosetta Stone.

I bought a lifetime digital download…

I bought a lifetime digital download for Rosetta Stone Spanish. I haven't used the product in a couple of years and wanted to get back in. Come to find out that they discontinued the digital version and that my "lifetime" purchase was no longer valid.

Find another program, I can't say as I trust Rosetta Stone to do the right thing.

From my experience Rossetta stone has…

From my experience Rossetta stone has been the best way i have tried to learn a language. having used it as a child i think it was also good at training your brain how to break down foreign languages and understand them, a skilll that makes learning language easier. Would really reccomend it, particularly for kids.

The teaching method is good

The teaching method is good, but the navigation and the progress page is not easy to understand. You have to follow whaever 'plan' is setup and you must complete each lesson. You dont have the flexibility to chose and focus on what you want to learn. You have to manually find and remember which lesson you left off

Tons of issues

Tons of issues with Rosetta Stone, stemming back to almost a decade ago. I was originally a CD boxed set purchaser, but the company no longer recognizes the money I spent for the full course of a language because they've switched mediums, so I have to repurchase to continue learning.

I repurchased, but then couldn't figure out how to reset my progress. Seems as if the program can recognize that I had already bought levels 1-5 of the language as my progress was saved, so greed seems to be the only explanation for why I had to buy a 2nd subscription for a language I already fully purchased in the past.

Fast forward a few years, and I wanted to renew my subscription again and use Rosetta Stone as a supplement to a real tutor that I pay for lessons twice a week. I can log-in to the website, and see that my subscription has expired. I click the button to renew my subscription and the website logs me out. I go through the steps to just buy a new subscription, but the website then shows that my email is recognized and asks me to log-in. I log-in... and I am back at the beginning. Clicking any button that might possibly renew my subscription logs me out. Logging in on the store page kicks me back to my account where I get a message asking me to renew my subscription where... you guessed it, any button I press logs me out again.

I remember the lessons being pretty good, and I picked up a lot of Chinese that I use, but it's impossible to reset your progress, you can't really tell where you are in the program. There is a non-existent customer service, and if you do speak to someone, they don't really help you. I can't foresee anything changing in the future, and cannot recommend Rosetta Stone anymore despite previously loving the system.

Boring

Boring, Out Dated, Does not break down the lesson plans. Does not explain why your answer is Wrong. I used Duolingo for over a year. I learned a lot from Duolingo. But its become to political correct. Rosetta Stone is a Horrible program and Purchase

Frustrating

Im sure the content is there but everything seems pretty clunky and dysfunctional. Any attempt to navigate around the web site seems to end in a sales pitch. I purchased the live tutorials as well and these don’t seem to work either. Very frustrating.

Poor customer contact system

UGLY- Refund/rerturn instructions are really vague and not straight forward to find.Neither the contact us phone numbers on their UK website nor the online chat actually works. The phone numbers don't work and the chat keeps directing you to email instead. It's scary how a professional business has such a limited range for being reached by customers. It's so poor I can see how someone might think this is a scam as it's easy to buy something but frustratingly hard to reach anyone.

GOOD- I've use Rosetta stone in the past and based on my previous exprience decided to buy the lifetime membership as I felt it offered incredible value. It also came with a 30 day money back guarantee. It has lots of language options, videos, stories etc. The email option to request a refund was fairly prompt and was processed on the same day of my email, which was re-assuring,

BAD- Unfortunately I didn't enjoy it as much and just doesn't suit my learning style despite working well for me years ago. I decided to use the 30 day money back guarantee and it was a scary experience when all contact us options were not working. All the contact us phone numbers DO NOT work and the online chat feature despite asking me initial details to connect me DOES NOT work as it keeps defaulting to "no one is available please email instead" which makes you wonder why it didn't just have that to begin with. The saving grace was the email option. But very disappointed that the advertised alternative options on the website don’t actually work.

I cannot log in

I cannot use this software on my mobile phone if I am logged in on my laptop. It shows a message asking me to log out of the device that I am currently logged in on and then to try again. It would be useful to be able to log in on multiple devices especially for someone on the go. Or alternatively for the software to log you out after a period of time where the software has not been in use. It is frustrating not being able to access software because of being logged in somewhere else and having to return to that device (sometimes days later) to log it out.
I have contacted Rosetta Stone via a feedback form. I have not had a response yet. I do not know what they claim their response turnaround should be.

Great product, would recommend to learn new languages.

I managed to get the lifetime package with Rosetta Stone for £100. For someone who is trying to learn a language, Rosetta Stone is a great necessity as it has great resources and easy to understand lessons. The only reason I’ve gave Rosetta Stone 4/5 stars is because without a price deal it can be very expensive.

Progressing could be made technically easier.

Although reviewing the same material time and again is probably good and maybe even necessary, I find it a bit frustrating to time and again be returned to the same very easy exercises that I´ve already been 98% right on. It could be made easier to chose what level or what kind of an exercise to work with.

I would have found it easier if the English phrase was also displayed

It is very early to have a strong view as I am just four days into trying to learn Spanish and so far I have only devoted one hour per day, but my first impression is that it would be helpful to have the English phrase written as well as the Spanish. Because Rosetta Stone uses images, and then displays the words in Spanish, it is not always clear (at least not me) what the phrase means, and therefore also seeing it in English would help to better understand a phrase or sentence. At first, I was confused as there seemed to be images of boys, girls, men and women with so many different words for each of them, as it wasn’t obvious the word was describing what they were doing (e.g. swimming, running, etc.). If the phrase had also appeared in English it would have been clearer.

The website is slow to load every time…

The website is slow to load every time you try to do anything. You have to clear your browser history to kick start it again. EVERY time. It was OK when I first subscribed, but for the last 6 months it has been really difficult to get it to work.
