Expensive unreliable and mean

I put in an expensive order the other day and they sent a crucial wrong item for which they were dismissive and barely apologetic.
I also requested clearly not to use plastic, they did both times in initial order and in replacement.

But the biggest issue with them aside from inefficiency and attitude, is price and meaness.

They have a new line of ceramics but no sample sheet, so I requested a handful of single tiles as samples of some of the colours, something that every other mosaic supplies in UK is happy to do, and is usually on offer on there websites.
Yet Hobby Island 'doesnt do that' apparently, no matter the size of the order you've put in, or the obvious reality that you are then more likely to purchase that line, or any other for that matter.
Does it occur to them that for want of five tiles they are shooting themselves in the foot?
And then there are the prices.
For example Leoponitt tile cutters average £35 in every other outlet, but Hobby Island sell them for £58. Thats £23 more, utterly ludicrous.
And replacement wheels £10 more than everyone else.
Its also hard to know who you are talking to, they dont have either an email or phone number on their site, never a good sign and their different responses come from totally different non company emails.

Not convinced with by the companies response.
That their nippers and wheels are more than £20 out of line with every other outlet, is an issue of greed, nothing less.
As to the previous owners stratergy of not giving samples, why repeat an unworkable stratergy when selling a new line?
The suggestion to me that customers should have to buy all the tiles so they know what they are like is of course ludicrous.

They could of stocked the sample sheet with the new line rather than expect us to fork out money for tiles we might not want.

Dear Marina. I am sorry that you were unhappy with your latest experience in purchasing from our website. I have now thoroughly investigated what happened.
Firstly, we must apologise for the issue with your note asking us to not use plastic in our packaging. This note was left on your order on our website, and due to an issue with our order management system the message was not transferred with your order details - meaning the lady that packed your order was not aware of your request. We are working to fix this very soon. However, at present we do not have alternative packaging for bagging our tiles or ensuring they are safely transported without using plastic bags and potentially other plastic padding. We do try to keep our environmental impact to a minimum, and consistently re-use boxes and padding that we receive from our suppliers, etc.
Regarding samples, we made the decision several years ago to cease sending out individual samples of tiles. This was in fact put in place by the previous owner, and the decision was made due to the time and (although not in your case) postage costs of such requests, and not so much due to the cost of the tiles. As a small business we have limited resources in terms of staffing, and with our small bags of tiles being low cost we have found that the majority of customers are happy to invest in those for their trials.
Regarding the Leoponitt tile cutters, we are frequently reviewing our prices based on our costs and availability. We will be sure to review this product. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.
Finally, the email you received from us that appeared to be from another email address was indeed sent from that address in error. A member of staff accidentally used that email in our customer service software and did not notice the error. The email address belongs to one of our other company brands. Our staff have been made aware of the error.
Please be assured that these were genuine errors and we are committed to offering high levels of service to our customers. We will strive to improve our communication on such matters going forward.

UNRELIABLE

I ordered mosaic tiles from hobby island to make a mosaic for my sons wedding. The order arrived incomplete. I emailed hobby island 3 times and tried to call them but no one answered. I am now unable to complete this project. I won't be ordering from them again as they are unreliable and care nothing for customer satisfaction.

Update Despite what they say here I have not received anything other than an automated reply. You're not able to order the individual colours included in this mix so what they say here is untrue.

Thanks for your review and feedback.
We've checked and can see that you were emailed/replied to on three different occasions about your issue with the tile mix you ordered. The emails explained that as our mixes are weighed out randomly a specific amount of each colour is not guaranteed. If you require a specific amount of a particular colour for a project we'd aways suggest ordering the colours separately or contacting us before placing an order.

We're sorry we didn't meet your expectations on this occasion but we'd love the opportunity to fix that in the future.

Truly dreadful company

Truly dreadful company. I paid for express delivery three days ago. No replies to emails. The worst company I have dealt with. Buyer beware.

Cancelled my order without telling me

Cancalled my order without telling me. Its only weeks later after they have not responded to phonecalls or emails that I go to take it up with paypal that I discover they have cancelled and refunded it and not told me. It has cost me a fortune in lost time with the builder trying to complete a bathroom.
Useless company, no stock, long lead tes and appalling communication. Avoid
