Information provided by various external sources

Alan Ranger is an award winning photographer based in the Midlands, UK. He has developed his personal style after more than 15 years’ experience: through expression, perception and a deep understanding of creative intention. Disciplined yet inventive, his inimitable approach allows him to turn unremarkable moments in to extraordinary images, depicting the remarkable journey through life. A glance at his landscape photography illustrates this concept - capturing the energy of the land and depicting the emotion of that specific moment in time. He says "I love the beauty of a landscape image, not because of what or where it is but because it reflects who we are and our individual connection to land, sea, sky and light."

I went on the Eryri workshop, staying in Betws y Coed. It was brilliant. Alan is so passionate about landscape photography and so knowledgeable, as well as being a smashing bloke. He gives clear tuition and feedback that really helps you grow as a photographer. Because discussion with him and other participants is an important part of his workshops, I would recommend going on the longer ones and I'll be going on another one in Springtime.

Photography Tuition: Dramatic Seascapes in Devon

I attended the Devon weekend seascapes course. Alan is a professional photographer and an experienced tutor. We were based at Hartland Quay which is a stunning place, offers lots of opportunities to photo the dramatic rock formations and waves. I learnt a lot in a couple of days and will practice what I learnt back home. To get the most stunning views of the rocks you need to be fit enough to get over the rocks, boulders but there are plenty of other viewpoints that are well worth photographing.
The course is great for people without their own transport as Alan gives lifts to the locations (they are off the main routes for P T. The hotel for this course is great- right by the sea with sea views from some of the bedrooms. I was lucky!

a wonderful weekend workshop

I spent a wonderful weekend on a workshop with Alan in Dorset. He was professional yet friendly and approachable throughout. He went above and beyond to make sure everyone got what they wanted and needed from the weekend. He took us to some great locations despite having to adapt the iteniary on the fly to make the best of less than favourable weather conditions.

My weekend spent with Alan in North Wales/Anglesey was worth every penny. I feel that I got a great deal of of it. Whenever I felt that I needed Alan's Attention - it was always there. I recommend Alan's workshops to anybody who is trying to improve their photography.

Excellent 1:1 Support

I have just started working with Alan and am thoroughly enjoying the sessions. He is not only a great photographer, he is a great teacher. The sessions have been personalised to me (to my level and to pace) and I have learned such a lot in a short space of time. Through working with Alan, I am confident that I will become a better photographer in every way from seeing and planning shots and taking the photos to enhancing them afterwards. Alan’s high expectations have incentivised me – motivating me but also encouraging me to see my photos in a more critical way. I am really impressed.

Shiny light

It was really interesting to see what Alan could get out of an architectural photo (not his usual genre!) with challenging lighting, definitely gave me some good ideas for treatment of similar photos

I have used Alan Ranger Photography for…

I have used Alan Ranger Photography for many years now, taking part in both workshops and tutorials. Alan teaches in a clear, relaxed and concise manner, which makes the learning fun. The latest webinars which Alan has offered during the Covid pandemic have been very informative. I have just taken part in Editing Autumn images in Lightoom, which helped me make sense of the new editing tools. Thanks Alan!

Helped me to see things a different way

Batsford Arboretum is beautiful but I can find it very challenging to capture this beauty in photographs. Alan’s workshop was great for helping me to view the landscape differently and in a way that can be recorded by my camera. Our group had members with a range of knowledge, experience and equipment but Alan was able to support all of us to develop our skills and find something new.
It was lovely to protect time to faff with my photos without the pressure felt when out walking with family and friends. Any aspiring photographer should treat themselves to this.

Wonderful afternoon session on…

Wonderful afternoon session on photography at Batsford Arboreatum. I'm a beginner and the level of instruction was just right. Alan was always on hand to advise on technical and aesthetic issues. By the end of the session i felt so much more confident in using my camera and can't wait to get out and practice some more!
