Nct, money maker
Noting great about my experience with nct,
40 euro re test for visual check !
Need to follow the model of the uk, if a car fails nct it is not insured and should not be let back on the road, however with a mot the garage will do the repairs on the spot.
Close these nct centres down and give the work to local businesses and not outside multinationals companys.
On my re test the person inside the counter asked me for my driving licence and car certificate while sitting on the reception desk with his back turned towards me.
I politely refused to give him the documents until he turned around and faced me with courtesy. The staff were not polite and I was not willing to let them treat me poorly.
This is what happens when the nct centres are the only place to certifie your car and they know that.
NCT Deansgrange Centre
NCT Deansgrange Centre. Left waiting for an hour while the certificate was just left on a desk. They didn't call me or check the waiting room. I had to ask twice if they were forgetting me, as the TV screen said 11 minutes left on inspection. Asked a staff member at the desk and was roared at "what do you mean 11 minutes? Dont mind that, just wait until you are called". waited another 40 mins before I had to enquire again. Poor customer service.
No respect for customers cars
No respect for customers cars. I observed a non Irish person JG violently hammering a screwdriver under an older car in northpoint 1 while waiting for my car, then he failed the car for corrosion.
Dip beam too high nct nenagh
Dip beam too high nct at nenagh. Failed report.
This literally is a joke paying 60 euros to fail on something so small and then another 40 euros for a retest. This scam needs to be reviewed. Like why aren't they advising customers here they do a visual test if this was fixed for free. The Swear people have plenty of money to be wasting here.
Galway NCT
Galway NCT, had to come back and pay 40€ for a dipbeam major. Has passed for years and now suddenly re-test requirement.
What is a dipbeam failure by the way? In friendlier countries you are allowed to join the inspector and adjust the headlight there on the spot.
Then they claim that they could not find the VIN number. He looked in the wrong place on the frame. It is also located behind the windscreen and that has worked for the last 15 years- but not in Galway.
The place is full of sellotaped hostile warning signs - nasty, messy and uncivilized.
Hopelessly unfriendly, dirty and inefficient place. (it takes weeks and months go get a slot)
Pure robbery to charge 40€ to check a dipbeam and VIN number.
I went for nct in Charleville
I went for nct in Charleville. The car had issues . I found Team leader Kevin helpful honest professional and fair.He was most helpful.
Professional service
Over the past few months I have had 3 NCT on my cars 2 at Carlow and 1 at Portlaois. On recent test in Carlow car failed on Tracking, operator was very courteous and explained the retest proceedure. Got car tracked and rebooked within 48 hrs. Passed with no issues. Another very pleasant operator.
A few months ago had test in Portlaois very pleasant operator. Passed with no issues. Overall a great service by very professional operators.
I had an English import car
I had an English import car . I had to get it VRTed At Deansgrange NCT center. I was dealt with by a lady named Leonie. She was very professional and fully available in explaining what needed to be done. She took her time in highlighting the whole process. She came across as an extremely knowledgable and efficient employee.
BIG UP LEONIE👌
If I could give 0 stars for Ennis Co…
If I could give 0 stars for Ennis Co Clare NCT centre I would , the way the NCT lad talked to me was disgusting and I now have to book the retest , 1 and half hours away from my house and at 11pm at night, it's madness,
Inspector in tullamore MD
Whoever is the inspector with the initials MD in the tullamore test centre I’ve never met anyone as ignorant telling me to “find a better mechanic” when my car had been to the mechanic and got the work done all just a money making racket. My mechanic which I’ve been going to for years. Had adjusted my handbrake and actually told me if he had to adjusted it anymore it will do damage.
Nct inspector said “tell them there is more than just foot brake”. Pure ignorance they find anything to fail which is pure bull when the work has been done.
Nct is a ripoff
Nct is a ripoff , dip beamed failed and I paid a mechanic to align the lights before the test.
No description written on what the issue is just wrote major fail.
How is the mechanic to address what the issue is.
Also 40 Euro for only light retest is a joke!
NCT BALLYMUN
I put my car through a retest yesterday evening and it passed , When I got my keys/cert off the tester he said "oh Your handbrake is a bit loose" When I got into the car the handbrake is completely snapped and handle comes all the way back , There was nothing wrong with it before I left it with them , He snapped it doing the test Literally just handed a complaint form to fill in , This is at Northpoint 2 (Ballymun)
A shambles
My car passed it's NCT at Greenhills NCT but when I got back into my car, I discovered that they damaged my push button parking brake during the test. Now I have to stop/start my engine in order to engage/disengage the parking brake. The button does not work at all.
No apology.
Just fill in this paperwork.
Ironic that an NCT center then let you head off in your car with a dodgy parking brake that they're responsible for, surely that's not safe? 🤷🏻♀️
Make sure you take pictures and videos of your car before the test because I have a feeling they will try wash their hands of any responsibility for repairs.
Outrageous Behavior at NCT centre My…
Outrageous Behavior at NCT centre My Car Was Damaged During the Test! Be careful, avoid N. Pt 1 (Ex4,M50) centre.
I had an appalling experience during a recent vehicle test at an NCT centre. The inspector took a metal bar and started striking a part of my car. As a result of this completely unacceptable action, a hole was made in the vehicle’s bodywork. He then took a photo of the damage and told the driver that the test had failed, stating that the part must be replaced.
What makes this even worse is that video recording is strictly prohibited in all NCT centres, meaning there’s no way to prove what really happened. This creates a situation where inspectors can physically damage your vehicle and then claim it was a pre-existing defect.
This practice completely undermines public trust in the NCT system. It's not just incompetence — it's a clear violation of professional conduct and common sense.A vehicle inspection should verify roadworthiness — not cause deliberate damage!

I attended North point 2 this evening (VRT). Bernadette, the lady in this section was so helpful and friendly . Fantastic customer service . Took the time to explain everything to me .

My review is about the Dublin booking centre.. I got to my last day for my retest I rang to book in there was nothing available at my centre so I would have to do a new test!!! they advised me to keep ringing to see if there would be a cancellation I did that.. then a girl called SASHA answered this girl was more than helpful rang the test centre for me and got me in.. I understand this might not always be possible..but she was the first person to offer to do this.. I want to shoutout a big thank you to Sasha for her help and her professionalism.THANK YOU!

NCT centre Kells
NCT centre Kells - makes the process easy. The staff are always lovely, it’s easy to access and the waiting area in the centre itself is much improved in recent years.
Previous dodgy NCT inspections
Previous dodgy NCT inspections. E.g. once failed due to lcd fitted driving lights. Retest, no light paras change..passed. This time, service improved. " Advice" given on non critical poss issue...same bulbs as b4 failed. passed, dreadful QA standards...a joke.
Failed NCT for nothing
Went for NCT.. Failed because FRONT AXEL ALLIGNMENT is not OK.
went to do the wheels allignments where I was told they are perfect.
The car is a 2017 Mercedes Benz that always serviced on time in MSL Cork!!
