Hobbshouse Bakery

Used to go about once a month to the Bakery in Nailsworth and really liked it. We went yesterday and were disappointed to find that one of their most popular items (Cornish Pasties) have now been taken off the menu (apparently they lost money on them) and that many items were smaller in size than before but also dearer. I ordered a bacon sandwich for £6 expecting a real door stopper with quality bread: what I got was a flimsy sandwich with thin bread (not very fresh) not worth more than £3. Plus, we were initially overcharged by at least £2 but when the price was corrected it was still not worth the money.

Well made product and great customer service

We bought a small and large bread tin and the quality is really good. We decided the small tin was just too small and decided to return and order another large tin. The service from Laura was very pleasant and she offered the exchange at no extra cost. Can't wait to get baking more and more lovely loafs with these solid tins.

Do not buy Baking stone

The baking stone you sell and advertise as 'preventing soggy bottom on bread' just doesn't do as stated. The baked bread unfortunately has a soggy bottom and remains under baked. There isn't any substitute for a cast iron dutch oven, avoid this product.

Gluten Free sliced bread no longer any good…

The once excellent Gluten Free sliced bread now falls apart in 8 or 9 loaves I buy out of 10. It's got worse over the last year, and I have bought it since they started making it. No more.

Either the top half breaks off, due to a large air bubble under it,losing 15 to 25 % of each slice, or in extreme cases the whole loaf self destructs into crumbs with little use than to give the birds. An expensive waste.

I emailed Hobbs about it several weeks ago and got no reply. I also asked them about it on Twitter and also got no reply. Not impressed at all. The impression given is they don't care or check on their product.

The bread tins purchased have come covered in black bits and are very scratched. They look used not new. Bought these as a gift for Christmas not happy to gift these.

Sour Pastries

Ordered for a present for housemate, a pastry bundle and baking stone. On the first delivery baking stone came broken. The second delivery with the pasties then took a while to come and when it arrived box was squashed and it was left on the doorstep for hours. The packets had expanded a bit but put them in the freezer on defrosting they all had a sour smell to them so had to be thrown away.

When I contacted them about the stone they sent out a replacement which did arrive. However, the contacting about the pastries a couple times I’ve had no reply back at all. Which was ultimately disappointing as it’s been a waste of money and waste of a gift.

I do put some of the blame on the delivery company they used as they showed no care for the products at all.

No response! No Help

As a Bakery we used Hobbs House Bakery for our supply of flour and these would constantly arrive split or broken. We would contact the company with no luck at getting any response or help in rectifying this. We have even tried to contact via Instagram but still not luck. We will not be using this company again. AVOID!

NO CUSTOMER SERVICE

Ordered bread - 6 loaves. Four were sent, one was refunded and one (Olive Bread) was replaced with hot cross buns! Wrote to the 'help desk' on the website - TWICE! - and no answer received. Appalling company. Will never use again

Fantastic

Bought a selection of breads and rolls, for me and the family, delivered on time, bread was lovely especially the spelt bread.
Burger rolls are the best I've ever had. Fresh, frozen then thawed, toasted or untoasted. Will defo buy again.

The items were bought as a present and delivered to the wrong address. To myself not the person who I ordered them for. I sent them back for re-delivery to the correct address and they once again arrived at the wrong address 5 days later! I give up and will readdress and take to the post office tomorrow.

If You Like Defective Bread Loaves Shipped To You With Large Cracks Running Through Them, You'll Love Hobbs!

Thinking about ordering online from Hobbs House Bakery to have bread delivered to your door?

Think again. We've experienced this bakery's home delivery service deteriorate dramatically over the past 2 years.

All told, before the home delivery service plummeted in quality, we had ordered about 100 loaves in different home deliveries. For the first year, the deliveries were fine.

Then, as problems developed with errors and mistakes in their bread deliveries, we were made to feel that we were 'bothering' them when we phoned to ask them to make things right... such as accidentally failing to deliver all of the bread on the same day and slicing loaves which we did not want sliced, for example.

Eventually, in the past two home delivery orders, we were sent loaves of their rye bread which had large cracks running through them which made it impossible to slice them without the bread falling apart into unusable pieces.

There were so many loaves cracked in pieces like this that we now suspect that Hobbs were simply salvaging their cracked, defective loaves by selling them to us at full price because presumably no walk-in customer at their bakery would pay money to buy a loaf of bread like these off the shelf and what better way to get rid of defective loaves than to ship them out of town to trusting customers who weren't expecting anything like that. Selling cracked loaves to us at full price beats having to throw these defective loaves out or having to donate them to charity, at least from Hobbs perspective, we imagine.

In any event, with so much outstanding competition throughout England from amazing bakeries who actually care about their customers and who care about repeat business and making customers happy, if you want to order delicious bread to be delivered to your home, go online and check out the numerous wonderful choices you have to choose from out there.

On a positive note, the reason why we gave Hobbs two stars and not one star is because when you warm up the broken pieces after slicing their defective broken loaves, the bread pieces really are delicious!
