Caunce O'Hara cancelled me after 16 years!

Caunce O'Hara cancelled me after 16 years! I am a small limited company and had PI insurance with them from 2009-2025. Nothing had changed in my business, I had no claims, but on the renewal date they said they could no longer insure me! They offered to extend it for 3 weeks to allow me to find another insurer, but charged me a premium for it. They were previously very good but I can't recommend them now.

Trying to get a refund is a nightmare!

Trying to get a refund on a policy which automatically renewed as I didn't realise my card had been stored on the system.
Was assured 11 days ago it would be sorted. Spoken to someone today who was apologetic only to find its not been done and now needs to go to a team leader and they'll update me.

Used them a few times over the years but this will be the last time I ever use them now!

PII with Caunce O' Hara since 2020

I've had my professional indemnity insurance with Caunce O' Hara since 2020, after finding out that an ex-employer company was covered by them. Initially their quote to me was quite a lot higher annually than the quote they offered to a friend of mine that I recommended them to, who does a similar job & was looking for similar cover. After I called them to complain, they lowered my premium to match his. So I would recommend people shop around initially, to ensure they're getting the best deal for the same professional insurance product. My premium has remained the same two years in a row, which is very welcome at a time when most companies seem to increase their price just for the sake of it, to make more profits & scr*w their customers. I've not ever had to claim, so I don't know how robust that part is - hopefully I'll never find out!

Tried to rip us off for £20 in vouchers after 15 years of business when recommending a friend.

After 15 years of giving Caunce my business for my limited company, I recommended my wife to them to take out a freelancer policy. She took out a policy, but when we attempted to claim the two £10 vouchers for recommending a friend, we were denied. The excuse given was that my wife's policy was from a different company. 15 painful E-mails later we finally got the vouchers. I noticed at my renewal that the exact company that we were told my wife's policy was with, Markel, were the same insurers as my company's policy. When I queried this I also found out that Markel was the parent company of Caunce! Disgraceful behaviour!

I cancelled my renewal immediately and will give my business elsewhere. The day after I cancelled my renewal, Caunce then took the money from my account (today 21st Jan 2025) and sent me policy documents. These have now been cancelled. Again, disgraceful behaviour!

Unresponsive, rude, expensive

Unresponsive to emails regarding an existing policy, rude when finally reached via phone, promised clarification on policy question and never sent it. Offered inflexible addition to policy that was more expensive than a comprehensive policy elsewhere. The only thing that arrived promptly was an automated email with a request for a review- so I obliged…

I cancelled a policy with the company

I cancelled a policy with the company. No fault of theirs, only due to retiring. Despite my cancelling in good time it was renewed and the amount taken from my bank. I contacted the company to discuss and was given an apology and assured that the amount would be reimbursed. A week later and it hasn’t happened. There is no need for it to take this long and I hope it is rectified very soon.

Extremely Rude & Worthless PI Cover

I held insurance through Caunce O'Hara for many years, on a recent renewal I update my card details and then was asked if we undertook any calculations. When I confirmed so, I was told that these would need to be checked by third parties or cover was unavailable. When challenged on what the PI for design engineers actually covered I was told that this was a daily conversation, that I was rude, and the phone was hung up on me when I asked to speak to someone more senior. Appalling......

What an incredible company this is.

What an incredible company this is.
I called them a couple of weeks ago to explain that I was really, really struggling with my business (for obvious reasons, this account is a pseudonym)....

And they were WONDERFUL.

I have been off sick with c-PTSD, depression and anxiety for several months and unable to work. I had ignored reminders about my insurance renewal as it made me feel panicky.

On the day that it renewed, I knew the payment (annual) would almost put me out of business.

I rang them and they were so compassionate and understanding. They IMMEDIATELY reversed the payment request so that I wouldn’t go into my business overdraft - and changed it to a monthly payment to help me budget and have a chance of business survival.

I wrote to thank them for their amazing customer service and compassion.

Then - the case was escalated upwards and the senior people in the business went even further and hugely reduced my premium, in recognition of my situation and in solidarity with my mental health.

I was completely overwhelmed (in a good way) by their compassion and kindness. Huge empathy and understanding.

Also - even before I was ill - they really listened carefully and tailored my insurance exactly to my (micro) business and what I need to serve my customers.

I cannot tell you how life-changing it is when how have a mental health problem to have an individual care. For a company to care - and to got out of their way to help is HUGE and has helped to speed up my recovery.

I went back to work on Monday - and I owe a large part of that to Caunce O’Hara and their humanity,

An extraordinary company that truly walks its values is rare. Caunce O’Hara truly walks its talk. I can not recommend them highly enough. Exceptional.
