They just stop communicating with you. Literally emails marked ‘URGENT’ and chased 5 times over a 30 day period are being ignored by multiple people. There error of which there are so so many, are costing us thousands of pounds. Literally the worst.

I truly believe this company is a scam. No support, non functioning service which led to us cancelling the subscription after just a few days. The contact person said that no payment was going to be made. They have now charged our company card the full payment anyway and the contact person has stopped answering any emails. Genuinely the worst company of all time. In the replies to reviews below, they often advise to email them at a specific email, which I did 8 days ago, but with zero response, so I believe even that is a scam.

I can't express enough what a pleasant experience it was working with Alesha Meshram on my issue. In all honesty I have struggled several times on other issues getting the support I need from Avalara. However in this case Alesha listened to my issue and walked me through step by step what I needed to do to resolve it. I wish there was a way I could work with her directly on every issue I had. Can i make that a minus star. Since taking our money knowing we wanted to be set up in days we have been trying to get set up. Eight weeks later everyday there is another problem. Rarely any support. If you have three months to wait to get set up for vat abroad this may be fine. For us it’s been a disaster. Ive asked for my money back several times but they just ignore that too.
Very professional and skillful approach in resolving the questions or issues. My representative William was very helpful and effectively answered and resolved all inquires I had regarding out VAT questions.
Quick, to the point with positive result!

AVOID AT ALL COSTS - What a shockingly bad company, the process of getting a Dutch VAT & EORI number took roughly 12 weeks and require lots of calls to clarify basic information I submitted. I've had a Dutch VAT & EORI number since January this year and have been unable to file a single return despite submitting returns and customs documents to Avalara, I've submitted the same document 5 times and they are still asking me to resubmit it. It's very difficult to get on calls with anyone once you are signed up, you're provided an 'account manager' who doesn't really know what's going on, I'm owed over €10,000 in Dutch VAT when I ask what's happening with my refund I just get told "these things take time" it's been 9 months!!!!!!

It has been a 1 year since I moved from Avalara to Avask.
I could not be happier, when I consider the diabolical experiences Avalara provided me. EG 6 months after being instructed to update details with the DE Tax Office, they hadn't. I had to do it myself.
The failure to correctly provide the FR Tax office with returns, too, created some considerable headaches for me.
After my first review, Avalara demanded I remove the name of the agent I dealt with , Dale, who was useless (but really nice). They spent more time coming after me than sorting out their mistakes!
Avoid Avalara. Use Avask.

Do not use this company . They are incompetent , cost us money by there errors, and would not help resolve the issues properly or cover the costs of their errors. Returns filed late and incorrectly . Management do not take responsibility and certainly do not help resolve issues .

We faced a time-constrained EORI setup, which had been delayed initially by Avalara and then further by overseas government admin. However, Avalara’s support — especially Naima — weathered the storm and got it sorted for us just in time for what we needed. So many thanks, Naima!

The experience was good only due to involvement of Kumkum.
Otherwise my experience with Avalara is not that great. and it still stays the same as your team keeps coming back to me with my return file back and forth not looking at the whole file just one line and then query. We have only 10 lines why they just cant go through the whole file and let us what to correct.

Today, I contacted Avalara for the first time and Alesha Meshram assisted me. She was wonderful!
She was patient, professional, and did a great job of helping me navigate the website. She is very knowledgeable. I had submitted a couple of cases and receive what seem like a "cut and paste" replies, which was not very helpful, as all matters are not the same. Avalara is very lucky to have her on staff.

The most recent update to the "Approve Returns" page is terrible and has doubled the time it takes for me to review and approve the returns. The fact that every time I approve a return, it closes the "show details" section for every state is a horrible update. I should be able to expand the details for every state so I can see the Total Sales, Taxable Sales, Tax Calculated and Amount Due and go state by state approving them like I used to. Now I have to expand the details for one state, click approve, wait for the page to refresh, then open the details for the next state because it closes all of the details for some reason. Either the change needs reverted to how it used to be, or the details should always be shown.

Adrienn, from Avalara's support, is very helpful and has answered a number of my questions. I have no complaints with how efficient he is. However, I do think the Avalara system we are all being forced to follow is very robotic and slow.

While it seems you have to be a VAT specialist to use the Avalara import tool, I can't fault the support staff. Patricia and others have been on hand responding to my requests well within a 24 hour period.
They have been able to provide support on our unique situation transporting goods from CH via DE to EE under DE registration, which is not a standard service.

The support went really well. I have had other poor experiences but this one was good. The only issue was that I had a hard time hearing Alesha but other than that everything is resolved just fine. Thank you so much for the assistance.

I started a process with Avalara Ltd on 01/05/2025 and was clearly told it would take around 8 weeks. It's now 14/07/2025, and only today have the documents finally been sent to the Irish Tax Office. I’ve now been informed there’s a further 12-week turnaround, meaning the entire process is going to take at least 5 months, not the 8 weeks I was promised.
What’s made this worse is the lack of communication. I’ve emailed the sales manager multiple times and not received a reply since 10/06/2025. In the end, I had to resort to calling the general customer service line, which is far from ideal when you’re trying to resolve a time-sensitive issue.
This has been a frustrating and disappointing experience from start to finish. I expected more from a company that positions itself as a tax compliance specialist. I would NOT recommend Avalara based on this experience.
