Quick and effective, but needs regular maintenance.
I purchased the Karcher FC5 direct from the company. I considered the FC3 rechargeable battery model, but decided on the FC5 because it has a vacuum action. The price of the two units was identical at the time of purchase. I found the picture instruction indecipherable and the written ones little better, but the machine is actually very simple to put together and use.
My first impression on using the machine were good. Of course it is still necessary to brush the floor to remove dust and debris first as you would when using a mop. The mains powered motor is reasonably quiet and the the unit is not excessively heavy. I found I cleaned my floors much quicker than with a mop and the real advantage of the Karcher FC5 is that it constantly supplies clean water to the roller and collects the dirty water in a separate tank. My floor dried much faster than when I use a mop or cloth.
However, this is not a machine that you can use and put away. Both tanks need to be drained and flushed out. The micro-fibre rollers need to be washed, rinsed and dried. If, like me, you own a pet I found the machine did not deal with pet hairs very well. After removing the rollers I noticed clumps of wet pet hair in the narrow drainage slot; I cleaned this with a brush, but I think it may be necessary to flush this chamber leading to the drainage tanker with a jet of water occasionally to prevent the build-up of fluff and hair.
I would recommend the Karcher FC5 for those with large areas of hard flooring; I do not think it would be worth buying for just one room. I also believe that it is necessary to clean the machine thoroughly after use and potential customers should be aware of this.
