Review of Britannia

Disappointingly slow to respond!

Reported our breakdown due to a flat tyre at 4:35am, on an unlit A road a few miles south of Newbury. I was informed that the response time would be up to 2 hours and I'd be contacted when they were 20 minutes away. Heard nothing by 6:50 am, so rang again to be told there'd been a problem getting a local garage to respond, but someone would be with me within the hour and they'd keep me informed.

At about 7:30, two different breakdown companies had contacted me to say they were responding, so called Britannia again for clarification. I then received further calls from both drivers, so chose the company with the quickest response time and cancelled the other company myself!
Once the recovery vehicle had finally arrived at about 8:30am (from Petersfield, 43 miles away!), the service was very good, although the driver had apparently been given inaccurate details of our location, despite me using 'What3Words', which unfortunately had caused further delay. We were back on the road within 25 minutes.

Competitive quote... and great service at renewal.

LV recently sent me an email, reminding me that my motor policy was due for renewal later this month. As I needed to make some minor changes to my policy, I gave them a call. In view of current publicity about the rising cost of motor insurance, I was offered a surprisingly competitive renewal fee, my call was answered quickly, and the staff member was really helpful and courteous throughout. Very professional customer service - a rarity, these days! Many thanks for your help, Nia - much appreciated.

One day First Aid course in Swindon

I attended a one day First Aid course in Swindon last week. Our trainer (I think his name was Andy?) was both informative and professional, covering the course material thoroughly and effectively.
Personally, I would have preferred to have more time to consolidate what I'd learned before progressing to the next topic, but appreciate that time was limited and there was a lot of material to cover in just the one day.
It was particularly useful to watch demonstrations by our trainer to show how to carry out the different First Aid techniques. However, I'm hearing impaired, and found the short video extracts much less helpful - subtitles would have made such a difference, as I struggled with the sound quality.
All in all, I'm pleased that I've been able to update my knowledge of current First Aid procedures.

Useful comparison site

Useful site. The price they quoted was the same as the price that I paid the provider. All went through quickly and smoothly.

Review of Howden Insurance

Cheaper than my previous home insurance.

As I currently insure my car via A plan, when my home and contents insurance renewal was due, I requested a quote by phone. My call was dealt with in a friendly and courteous manner, and I received a competitive quote, having stated the maximum price that I was prepared to pay. As this was cheaper than my existing renewal quote, I accepted.

Resolved: Hot water flow and water wastage issue

We are reasonably happy with our 1 year old Greenstar Life (GR8300iw 30 C Ng) combi boiler, and are pleased that our gas costs are lower than previously.

However, the main drawback is that as we are on a water meter, its quite frustrating to literally 'pour money down the drain' each day, whilst waiting for the hot water to flow through the pipework and out of the tap. Sadly, a leisurely bath is now a thing of the past, as I'm no longer able to top up the bath water, without a lot of cold water arriving first!

In hindsight, I suspect we should also have chosen a slightly larger model for our 3 bed semi, as during the winter months, the boiler sometimes struggles to maintain a comfortable room temperature within our home.

UPDATE: Thanks to your Customer Service advice, I've switched off the 'ECO' button on our boiler - and the difference is amazing! The hot water flows through our pipework much more quickly...blissful hot baths are back!!! :-)
Hoping your advice about maintaining a warmer temperature during the winter months is equally successful - if so, I'll update my score, and post a further review again, then.
