Review of Rentalcars.com

Drop a booking agent…be the 'client!'

I rented a car in Munich for 4 days through Rentalcars.com, using Europcar. The girl at Europcar asked about the return flight and when we expected to return the car. It was a couple hours after when we picked up the car, but 'no worries. All is in order.' When I returned the car, as agreed, I was charged an extra day! The problem with Rentalcars is that their profit margin cuts into what Europcar would have made. Thus, being a Rentalcars.com client, rather than a Europcar client, Europcar went by the book and could not care less. Rentalcars could do NOTHING to help me. They did offer me 'compensation' on my next rental. But, in fact, that 'compensation' proved so limited that my secretary actually booked the same class car herself with a 40% improvement on the 'compensation price' that Rentalcars.com offered me! It was a joke! Pure rhetoric. Please note: if not always, then ALMOST ALWAYS, it's better to book direct with rental car co, rather than a booking agent. The car co earns more on you and wants to keep your loyalty. Thus they will provide you with better service and more perks. My example clearly shows that to be true. The Rentalcars.com biz model is stiff and limited. Forget it. You do better (also with hotels) by booking directly yourself.
